The Hawkeyes overwhelmed Cornell with a dominant 61 to 0 victory. Iowa executed on both sides, delivering a decisive win as the Big Ten matchup showcased their strength on offense and defense.
Last Saturday Iowa crushed Cornell 76 to 0 in a one sided game. The Hawkeyes dominated size and strength, while Cornell’s light team fought hard but failed to stop the rushing Iowa backfield. Finger rested the squad on Monday with Knox game next Saturday.
Roy Weise was elected to succeed Milton Norton as president at the Debating League meeting. The group discussed intercollegiate judges and a faculty selection system to secure qualified officials. Nine of ten debaters elected to participate back in school, with hopes for a strong season and a clean triangular sweep.
Saturday's results feature Beloit 53 Monmouth 0 and Purdue 34 Northwestern 0 with Drake losing to Illinois 24 20. Grinnell and Cornell 0 7 Carlisle 0 Vermont 7 Dartmouth 33 Harvard 23 Yale 27 Lafayette 0 Princeton 28 Bucknell 6. Prof Conrad spent the weekend with Cornell friends and leads the Cedar Falls music department this year.
The Glee Club lowers its scarce numbers as ten veterans return and new freshmen supply strong material. Under Prof Conrad and club management, the season shows improved directorship and financial success from last spring. Ten veterans back, fresh recruits bolster lower parts. tenors may reach past performance.
The Artists Course opens next Tuesday evening featuring violinist Ludwig Becker, long time concert master of the Thomas Orchestra, and soprano Jenny Dufay whose coloratura voice is praised. Burnham’s playing is noted as particularly expressive. Season tickets cost $1.50 and can be reserved at Cornell Drug Store.
The Glee Club faces a lighter tenor section with Professor Conrad’s departure and Zechiel’s limited availability. Management weighs two trips during the holiday season and spring break to build experience and finances, aiming to cover new ground while preserving familiar selections. The outlook remains positive with continued strong student interest.
Miss Medary hosts a reception for new members of the association. Miss Riley’s talk from Joshua 24 stresses national and personal history, women’s opportunities, and the duty to aid less favored women abroad, followed by vocal performance and a recognition ceremony with carnations.
