Soloists Named for The Messiah at Cornell Chorus

Thelma Von Eisenhauer and Robert Kessler were named guest soloists for the 35th Messiah presentation at Cornell Chapel on Sunday December 10. They join Miss Pinkerton contralto and Mr. German tenor with Jacques Jolas directing the 160 voice chorus and Cornell Symphony Orchestra. Kessler appears in Marshall Field’s Dec. 5 engagement and Dubuque University Dec. 20 before Mount Vernon. Von Eisenhauer returns for her third Cornell appearance with Chicago City Opera.

Civil Liberties Suspended In Campus Crisis

Campus emergency led to temporary civil liberties suspension as Dean King assured Mount Vernon officials no search warrant was needed to recover 18 stolen highway signs from Merner Hall. 38 signs were recovered, including state and city markers, prompting action from the Iowa Highway Commission and potential fines of 3800 dollars.

Thanksgiving Week at Cornell Highlights Variety Arts and Events

The Little Theatre lights up every night with Family Portrait finishing touches at Armstrong Hall next Thursday and Friday. A Cornell Thanksgiving finale features novel stage effects, bright costumes, and music by Bus Canfield Orchestra at the December 2 dance in Merner Hall. The Twilight Turkey Trot serves tea on Thanksgiving from 4 to 7 PM, 15 cents per person. Chriss and Don Glasell exhibit oil paintings etchings and lithographs in the Little Theatre lounge, with prior shows in Marion Cedar Rapids and Dubuque and prizes from state fairs.

A W S To Conduct Social Usage Test

A.W.S. will distribute a social usage test in the girls dormitories Sunday night. Tests will be filled out and reviewed at Monday night house meetings with house presidents providing correct answers. The project aims to improve and check co ed manners focusing on etiquette basics.

Cornell College hires head to lead new health department

Cornell College's board of trustees approved creating a new health department and hiring a full time staff member for 1940-41. The plan includes health , hygiene and safety courses and campus sanitation, following student and faculty input. The board also re-elected Dr. Frank Cole and announced his final year as president of the board.

25 Letters 27 Numerals Are Awarded

Athletic Director Dick Barker announced the committee approved 25 varsity letters and 27 numerals. Twenty letters go to football men, five to cross country runners. Twenty five freshmen receive numerals in football, one will get his 48 in cross country. One upperclassman will receive football numeral.
