Annual English Prizes Increased at Cornell

The awards total more under a revised plan with fifteen dollars for the top senior in seminar exams and for the most distinctive creative writing in HUSK. Ten dollars go to the top freshman in creative writing and to the most valuable Cornellian staff member. Prizes will be awarded as books selected by winners.

University of Iowa Professor to speak on Cultural Epoch and Artistic Forms

Dr. Erich Funke of the German department will give a lecture titled Cultural Epoch and 4 Artistic Forms on Wednesday at 7:15 PM in the upper Chapel. The illustrated talk uses pictures music and poetry to describe cultural periods and is sponsored by the English department.

Vienna Cornell Meet Over Beer

The Cornell gymnasium hosted a Viennese style evening with candles in brown bottles, root beer and sandwiches, Limburger cheese and zweibach, a German band, and students dancing in Tyrolean attire. Burgo master Beaver led the merriment as Northwestern station agent Herr Klimo supplied music with members including Emil Biderman and Bob Bryant.

Eugene List to perform on Cornell lecture series

Twenty year old pianist Eugene List will appear on the Cornell lecture series Tuesday evening November 28. He has studied with Olga Samaroff Stokowsky and earned a scholarship at thirteen. His public career began after winning the Philadelphia Orchestra soloist competition. The Philadelphia Inquirer praised his last performance as poetically persuasive and technically impeccable.

Cornell Delegation Wins in Midwest Forensic League Session

Francis Allen elected permanent speaker of the spring session at Madison Wisconsin. Cornell team scored several victories with three of four bills passed while opposing measures failed. Dick Grumman and Max Miller chaired Foreign Affairs and General Welfare committees respectively. other delegates included Wally Tripp Phil Hanna and Robert Nelson. Plans target Springfield Illinois Capitol as meeting site.

Hobo Day at Cornell Showcases Eccentric Costumes

Last Friday crowds at Cornell paraded in wild outfits for Hobo Day. Ellen Louise Stewart won first prize with a witch like look, while Rosie Munro and Mary Dugan tied for second among students. Prof Cooper led the teachers with top honors.

The Battle Of The Diet Panel At Chapel

A panel discussion last Wednesday at chapel debated the dining hall project with students viewing a fireside chat style event. Speakers Marjorie Baker and Marty Kestenbaum spoke for the pro side while Elton Nelson and Nan Hobson spoke against.

Grade books due by noon Wednesday for grade release

Course books must be turned in to the registrar by Wednesday noon to receive grades. A list of students who have not turned in books is posted on the Bulletin board in Main Hall. Grades will be released next week with exact time announced in chapel.
