Faculty and student representatives finalize a shortened four class schedule for a memorial service at 10 50 Friday in Mt Vernon chapel. President Flint will speak on Observations in the War Area after traveling eleven hundred miles. Legion and G A R members receive reserved seating and a cordial invitation to attend.
The Cornell college Women's Glee Club, led by Manager Neal Mason, anticipates a successful year with most members returning. Officers are President Florence Tennant, Secretary Ruth Kidder, and Treasurer Helena Wilcox. A spring tour includes DeWitt, Clinton, Maquoketa, Anamosa, Lanark, Sterling, Ashton, Rochelle, Dixon, Freeport, and Rockford. Rehearsals continue. solos to be announced. Jeannette Ferris will accompany. Mrs. Schori of Elgin visited Earnestine in Altoona last weekend.
English and Journalism clubs will host a tea for Chinese club members at four tomorrow afternoon in the Journalism club room. Several Chinese students will discuss aspects of Oriental literature, offering an interesting variation in literary programs at English club teas.
The W A A tennis tournament opened Saturday with six game sets per match and two winning sets to claim victory. Vera Cates beat Francis Hipple 8 6 6 2 while Frances Harley defeated Alta Woods 6 2 6 0.
Over two hundred articles and one hundred twenty letters and gifts from the local Christopher class of Prof. Mc Gaw travel to Chunking West China for Christmas presents to students. The China school, founded in 1912, has six teachers and over one hundred girls. The class aims to raise about $2,500 for a new building, with nearly half already pledged.
Professor Shaw attended a meeting of the executive committee of the Iowa State Federation of Music Clubs in Cedar Rapids last week. In 1923 Mount Vernon will host the federated music clubs biennial state convention.
