Crowded May Music Festival Opens With Elman Triumph

The May Music Festival drew large crowds for the opening concerts. Mischa Elman’s two hour performance held listeners in thrall as he earned four encores including Dvorak Humoresque. Walter H. Golde accompanied on piano. De Gogorza, Winslow, Garrison, and Werrenrath also impressed audiences.

Duke’s Chautauqua Musicians Promote Local Feeding Efforts

De Witt Williams, finishing his second year at Cornell, travels with the Chautauqua troupe to the southwest and plays in an orchestra. Katheryn Paden also performs in Chautauqua work as a member of a musical organization. Both youths are noted as promising musicians.

Improvement at Palisades Expands Visitor Quarters

At the Lower Palisades, new sleeping quarters rise east of Rock View tavern, replacing older, less substantial facilities. R. C. Turner plans several years tenancy this spring and has overhauled the grounds. Visitors report improved condition and better visitor suitability than ever.

He announced another talk tomorrow at 2 PM to dedicate a monument for soldiers buried in unknown graves, weather permitting at the cemetery or M E church.
