Johnson Play To Premiere In Summer Theatre

Professor Albert Franklin Johnson and Wade Espey announce the Summer Theatre program at Cornell with the premiere of Spring Turns Left on July 9 10 and 11. Bertha French Johnson directs the comic ballet. Ruth Miller returns as guest instructor amid a five week schedule featuring Broadway hits and new modern comedy.

Purple Masquers Call Critical Meeting at Little Theatre

Sandburg to Speak at Cornell College Pilgrimage

Carl Sandburg, famed poet and Lincoln biographer, plans his sixteenth annual pilgrimage to Cornell College next Monday June 1. He will appear in the Lower Chapel at 8 p m with a pre hearing of verse from The People and will report on his adventures since last May. He will also sing folk songs in a baritone recital with guitar accompaniment.

Eighteen Seniors Placed in Teaching Positions

Eighteen seniors have secured teaching jobs for next year through college and agency efforts. Names and placements include Charlotte Austin at Ashton High School, Virginia Blanchard at Deep River, Sarah Reed at Allison, and others in Waverly, Radcliffe, Ames, Kinross, Blairstown, Van Horne, Whitten, Montour, Winslow, and Pocahontas. Coaching posts include Eldon Coffman at Marion, Harold Still at Clarion, and Charles Zodak at Pocahontas.

Oldest Cornell alumna Addie Gilruth may attend 1961 Commencement

Addie Collin Gilruth born 1866 may join Cornell alumni at campus events during Commencement week. The 96 year old, oldest living female graduate from a co-educational school, will celebrate a 75th anniversary of graduation with reunions for classes 1886 1911 and 1926.

Bowman Hall Annex Construction and Kitchen Remodeling

Bowman dining hall expansion 55 by 30 feet extends from the sun porch and will be followed by summer remodeling of the Bowman Hall kitchen. One room will replace the current three with stainless tables and new gas ranges. A north end doorway will allow dish flow through a different exit. The Roodhouse annex work resumes after winter pause. stone work is finished and the sun porch foundation completed. The house will be dormitory ready with three basement rooms, four on the first and second floors, and a large third floor room for several girls. Electrical work by Leo Beranek. Merner hall framework in reinforced concrete nears first two floors with third floor underway and stairs completed between first and basement.

Edward J. O'Brien, noted short story critic, praises the Cornell college magazine The Hulk for high quality stories. He lists top magazines to read and highlights Lenore Fliege's Boy Goes to Town and River Going By and Janet McBroom's Joanna. May Hulk issue due tomorrow with Mirich cover art.

Brand Seeks Funds for Cornell Wrestler Berlin Olympic Trip

A drive to raise 300 dollars to send Dale Brand 123 pound Cornell wrestler to the Berlin Olympics will start Wednesday. Brand was an alternate on the 1936 U S Olympic wrestling squad and needs funds to cover travel and expenses not provided by the Olympic committee. Contributions are expected from C men wrestling supporters Fort Dodge Brand’s hometown and from Cornell students faculty and campus groups.

Atlantic Monthly Honors Weismiller Poets Prize

Boward Weismiller, a Boward sophomore, received first honorable mention in Atlantic Monthly Magazine's annual undergraduate poetry contest for his poem Evening. His pieces Fog and Winter Breath also ranked among the top selections, while Poetry magazine June featured four of his poems with an expected payment around twenty dollars.

Milts Spring Formal Set For Cedar Rapids Saturday

Members of the Milt social group will hold their spring formal in the Terrace garden of the Montrose hotel Cedar Rapids. The event has been postponed to this week due to a conflicting track meet. Dr and Mrs Donald B Gould will chaperone. Lew Carrolls Orchestra from Iowa City will play. About 35 couples attend. John Ross Winnie is in charge of arrangements.

Syracuse U Chancellor to Deliver 1936 Commencement Address

Dr Charles W Flint, former Syracuse University chancellor and current Methodist bishop, will return June 8 to deliver the eighty third commencement address. The 1936 graduates assemble for an 10:00 ceremony with a 9:30 academic procession, followed by a noon luncheon and other campus observances.

Dean T R McConnell signs a contract with D C Heath for a General Psychology volume, with co authors Dr C D Skinner NYU Dr Powers U Washington and Dr Trow Michigan. Manuscripts due December 1 1936.
