Cornell captain Manly defeats a field of long distance sprinters to win the 440 yard dash in a notable upset.
Ames took the team title with 56 3 4 points as Drake came second with 41 3 4 and Grinnell third. Captain Manly sprinted the 440 yard dash in 51.2 seconds to lead Ames as Mellor and Massey fought hard in the early stages. Hoyt won the 100 yard dash in 9.4 seconds while Grinnell and Drake led in the mile and relay events.
The annual dual meet with Coe proceeds Monday afternoon at 3 45 in Cedar Rapids after a Saturday postponement due to festival concerts. A special car leaves at two for team and rooters. Both teams claim strong form with many events closely matched and seconds and thirds likely to decide the outcome.
A state law allows absent voting for college students away during election day. Steps: obtain an Absent Voters Application Blank, declare party, mail to auditor, receive ballot and affidavit, have it notarized, seal, and mail by registered mail. Election date June 5.
