Cornell Hosts Coe Track Men Saturday

Cornell welcomes Coe to the last dual track meet of the season and final home meet. Coe dominated a triangle with State Teachers and Cornell and placed second in another with Grinnell and Carleton. Cornell, after losses to Carleton, aims to challenge Coe in the 2:00 p.m. meet.

Nineteen Present At T. K. A. Dinner

Clarence Richardson Joe Griffin Ashley Foard and Elwyn Mauck were initiated into Tau Kappa Alpha with nineteen members attending a 6 30 dinner at The Grill. Basil Raffety led the event and Howard Palmer gave a brief history of the organization founded in 1908 by ten Indiana university men.

Sociology Students Tour Anamosa State Reformatory

Professor S. L. Chandler leads sociology students on a Thursday afternoon visit to the State Reformatory for Men at Anamosa. They toured cells, corridors, dining hall, chapel, kitchen, library, workshops, and athletic grounds and donated about 200 books to the prison library before a drive through the nearby park along the Wapsipinicon river built by convict labor.

Mrs Tull Wins Play Contest At State Federation

Jewell Bothwell Tull's one act play Dead Men Can't Hurt You won first prize in a state federation of women’s clubs contest this year. She received a fifty dollar prize and the production at Marshalltown before the convention throng last night. The drama, based on a short story she read at an English Club dinner years ago, impressed the judges with its tragic theme.

International Club Formed at Cornell for Global Awareness

Local C. C. A. chapter advances a National club to be launched at Cornell next fall. Across the United States C. C. A. groups plan clubs in each college to train students in global economic and political issues. The Cornell club aims to deepen student understanding of world affairs.

Parr and Wilson Describe Geneva Meeting Experience

Gertrude Parr and Marvin Wilson of the C. C. A. spoke in chapel about Lake Geneva last summer. They highlighted meeting friends and living with all classes of girls on a common basis as a key value of the women's conference June 19 to 26. Wilson described the venue and activities including swimming golf and tennis. He noted topics like faculty student relations and campus group issues as discussed under leaders in national activity. The men's conference runs June 12 to 19.

About twenty art students awake early Saturday to study nature in Miss Nama Lathe's yard. They paint in watercolors and inks using umbrellas, water buckets, and boards, then move to nearby houses and the Cedar river for sketches.

Carl Sandburg addressed a packed Lower Chapel audience last Tuesday night for his annual stockholders report. He discussed his work in progress “Lincoln, the War Years,” noting about 90 000 words completed through 1861 and a planned three volumes. He praised Autobiography of Lincoln Stevens and Fiddlers Green, read poems from Work in Progress, and closed with songs on guitar, a Rutabaga Tales story, and the benedictory poem To You from Smoke and Steel.

Wilson Ranger Naturalist Named for Glacier Park

Marvin Wilson is appointed Ranger Naturalist at Glacier National Park for the coming season. He will lead nature hikes and present talks on park features. He has been awarded a graduate scholarship at Stanford University for next year.

Plans for the Men’s Mixer to be held tomorrow evening are complete. Stanley Hribal will introduce toastmaster Claire Miller of Tipton.
