Mavis Claussen presents her senior piano recital in King Memorial chapel at 7 30 p m. The program features Bach English Suite in A minor Beethoven Sonata Op 31 No 2 in D minor Debussy Estampes Chopin Scherzo in C sharp minor. She trained with Jacques Jolas for four years and studied at Banff School of Fine Arts in Canada last summer.
Ruth Temple a Cedar Falls sophomore is chosen as queen for the Midwest Conference Track Meet with Diane Biddick Marion Vivian Shoaf Fulton Tenn Joanne Brainerd Rock Falls IL and Carolyn Burns Lake Park as attendants. The coronation is set for Saturday afternoon before final events and the queen plus attendants will present medals and trophies.
Cornell's Student Council hosts representatives from Ripon Knox Monmouth Grinnell Coe Lawrence Beloit and Carleton for the Conference of Liberal Arts College Students. Meetings tonight and Saturday plan topics from hiring bands to visiting lecturers financing and a literary magazine with a closing picnic.
An outdoor dance to the music of Bob Erdman's band will be held Saturday night on the tennis courts to end the weekend of Midwest conference activities. Cornell hosts track tennis golf teams and student councils from member schools. If weather turns inclement the dance will move to the gym per Bill Phillips.
Students on Dr. Herb Hendricks geology field trip to McGregor found brachiopods and trilobites while noting a disconformity on the Niagaran escarpment. A fossilized dinosaur egg and a dead fox were among the humorous discoveries after an early 6 a.m. start and picnic lunch. Hendricks explained Mississippi River history with a former floor about 600 feet lower due to ice-locked seas.

Dr. T. Raymond McConnell, former Cornell dean of education and psychology from 1931 to 1936, and current dean of the University of Minnesota’s college of science literature and the arts, is elected chancellor of the University of Buffalo. He will assume the post in June, succeeding Seymour H. Knox who led the buffalo institution for 28 years.
The Pal Day return saw the Faculty Flunkies and Bear's Bums tie 6 to 6 at the Upper Palisades diamond. Pitchers Walt Koch and Lynn Stiles each gave up eight hits as spectators enjoyed a pajama themed uniform romp and a late start by half an hour.
The Spanish film Los Heroes Del Barrio will be shown to students, former students, faculty, and friends in Spanish with English subtitles. Four screenings are scheduled in Main Hall AV room on May 23 and 24 at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. An admission of ten cents will be charged.
Seventeen Cornell students received Men's Senate honor keys at a chapel ceremony led by John Stouffer. The same event awarded Chuck Boylan the Bob Murray freshman athlete prize, honoring leadership, cooperation, progress, sportsmanship, scholastic maintenance, and educational drive.
Dr Eric Kollman history professor delivered the commencement address to Oxford Junction high school students last Thursday evening. He spoke on Youth Look to the Future. The invitation came from former Cornellian Kenneth Harden, a local teacher.
