Annual Men's Mixer Planned for Saturday Evening

Plans for the annual Men's Mixer set for Saturday evening May 23 include a Methodist church dinner and three featured speakers. Speakers are Bill Kelly former Washington High School coach Cedar Rapids Ira Carrithers of Cedar Rapids and Charles Hedges.

Rotary Entertains Mount Vernon Lisbon High School Seniors

The Mount Vernon Rotary club hosted 27 Mount Vernon graduates and 20 Lisbon students at a dinner at the Methodist church last Tuesday. Local superintendents Stout and Peterson and Lisbon principal Miss Florence Keyes attended. Dr. W. E. Slaght of Cornell College delivered the main address on true ideals of education.

The Purple Masquers closed their 1930-31 season with Molnar's The Swan. A sprightly comedy with rich settings that conveyed regal dignity through elaborate scenes and lighting, though cast nerves limited line delivery. Principal roles were played by (Turn to page 4).

Muse Dormitory Funded for Cornell College

Dr. H J Burgstahler announced a $100000 bequest from the late W F Muse to Cornell College Mount Vernon Iowa for a new men’s dormitory to be named Muse Dormitory. It will include fireproof construction, game rooms, and Y M C A style social facilities. Completion aimed for September 1932 with 5 percent interest to Mrs Elizabeth Muse Norris for life.

Professors Travel to Chicago to Choose Chapel Organ

President Burgstahler H A Miller and Harold Baltz left Mount Vernon for Chicago to select a new chapel organ. They plan to return Wednesday evening and the organ is funded by a gift from Mr and Mrs Henry Pfeiffer given earlier.

Twenty Five Dollars History Prize For Senior

Ho Brothers Share Impressions of American Students

Mr Henry Ho spoke at chapel praising American students as individualistic and sportsmanlike yet frank in expressing likes or dislikes. He warned of race prejudice as a weak point while Miss Caroline Ho and Miss Helen Ho announced plans to teach in China and to spread Christianity.

Ho Sisters Leave For China Tonight

Misses Helen and Caroline Ho, Cornell post graduates, depart for Shanghai to attend missionary and school conferences and study China’s current problems by teaching and traveling. Their brother, recent Washington master’s graduate, will join to pursue governmental work. They expect to arrive June 9 and stay into July.

Cullumber Wins Fifty Dollar Prize in Prohibition Essay

Evelyn Cullumber is awarded a first prize of fifty dollars by the Intercollegiate Prohibition Association for her essay Alcoholic Drink in Modern Society. The northwest district includes Minnesota North Dakota South Dakota Nebraska and Iowa. The district winner advances to a national contest with a top prize of five hundred dollars as a trip to Northern Europe and a Helsinki Finland conference on July 25.
