Miss Mary Gaston Cornell 1914 graduate and Cedar Rapids Hygiene instructor told chapel of the nation need for trained nurses. Dr Chase urged June start for University nursing course, three months intensive training, a year at University hospital, then year in army camps to complete three years and become registered nurses ready for overseas service.

Second Oratory Recital Delights School Audience

The second graduation oratory program featured Selma Kluss and Carrie Wiegman. Wiegman opened with Henry Van Dyke The Keeper of the Light, Kluss followed with Messengers at the Window. The pair delivered a humorous skit and then J M Barrie The Twelve Pound Look. Wiegman played Lady Sims, Kluss the former Lady Sims, with strong, gripping performances.

Poet Lindsay To Recite At College Recital

The fifth and final event of the season's course features Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay in the college Auditorium on Monday May 20 at eight. Admission is fifty cents. Lindsay, born in Springfield in 1879, studied at Hiram College and the Art Institute of Chicago and has lectured for the Y M C A and the Anti Saloon League.

Plan Aims to Stop Exodous and Train College Men

Secretary Baker unveils a plan to enlist all college men into the Army of the United States next fall for military training while permitting continued studies until age 21. Enlistment is voluntary but students over 18 are encouraged to join. active duty would not begin before 21 unless urgent need arises.
