The 1942 Royal Purple yearbook, edited by MaryJorie Baker, will be released May 21. It promises enhanced photography, campus life scenes, five new beauty queens, and new Civil Aeronautics Administration sections, with Adrienne Roscoe art and snowbound campus views.
An exhibit of original prints from the fifteenth century to modern times opens Monday May 19 in the Armstrong hall Exhibition room. It will feature etchings engravings and rare early woodcuts from collections shown at colleges nationwide. The exhibit ends soon to make room for the senior show featuring Jane Marie Pitkanen Ruth Ohlsen Jessie McKerrow Phyllis Wilmarth and Marc Daley.
Barrie’s Dear Brutus named the Cornell Little Theatre spring commencement production announced by Prof. Al Johnson. Performances set for Friday and Saturday June 6 and 7. The comedy unfolds on midsummer night with magical forest experiences and second lives.
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Dr. Frederick Stock opens its 50th year with Mozart Strauss MacDowell selections. Program includes Carnaval Overture Glazunov Symphony in D Major and more. Cornell Oratorio Society joins Saturday at 2 15 with Brahms Requiem conducted by Hans Lange.
Violinist Anne Culbertson and contralto Eudora Lindman present a joint recital on Wednesday May 21 at 7 p.m. Pupil of Mr Andrist Culbertson will be accompanied by Virginia Bolton and has appeared with the chapel school string quartet. Lindman, pupil of Mr German, is noted for her voice with Dick Head as accompanist. The program includes Handel Bach Die Forelle Schubert and Debussy among others.
The 43rd annual May Music festival at Cornell attracts famous personalities and alumni for concerts May 15 16 and 17. Guests include Mrs Frederick Stock Mr Hans Lange Mrs Seth Thomas Mr Henry Voegels Mrs Charles Weyerhauser and others from Chicago Oberlin and beyond.
At the 88th commencement on June 9 Cornell college will grant three honorary degrees. Malcolm Price of the Iowa state teachers college will receive doctor of laws, Rev. William G. Eckler of Cedar Rapids Trinity Methodist Church gets doctor of divinity, and Rev. C M McConnell of Boston will be honored as a doctor of divinity.
The Cornell C A A summer course is set to begin July first and run through summer school. Prof Nelson says enrollments follow usual requirements with same planes and instructors. He urges enrollment for better flying weather and more freedom from regular classes, noting 25 percent fewer failures among those who completed CPT courses. Women percentage remains at ten percent of admissions.
