Cabaret finale features Vic Valentine at Rathskeller

On May 19 the Commons Union Board presents the final Cabaret show of the year at the Rathskeller. Vic Valentine and a three piece combo from the University of Iowa perform pop tunes and show tunes with a French cafe atmosphere.

Self Government Experiment Proposed at Cornell Hall

Dean Barron Bremner proposes a Merner Hall Experiment in Self-Government on campus. He envisions an elected student council replacing proctors with students enforcing hall rules and handling services while a head resident provides support. The plan was deemed not feasible for next fall but could proceed if students organize and demand changes.

Fire Destroys Hawkeye Building and Equipment

A three hour blaze Monday night May 8 nearly totaled the Hawkeye Building. Fire started in the basement around 11 p.m. and spread to offices, collapsing floors over files, a safe, and a linotype. Lisbon and Mount Vernon crews battled the flames as Cornell students helped evacuate merchandise.

Miss Hinkhouse Wins Contest in Midwest Award

Miss Ann Hinkhouse of West Liberty Iowa won the third tie in the undergraduate division of the 1967 Manford H Kuhn Memorial Award for an essay written as a Cornell junior during fall semester 1966 67 The prize honors students from North and Midwest states with entries from liberal arts colleges and universities The winner title notes related authors and institutions including Winston Ehrmann Hamline Freer and Cedar Rapids publishers and the student produced issue of the Husk newspaper with poetry and prose by several named writers.
