Polly Wallace resigns as acting athletic director and head coach of Cornell football wrestling and baseball. He will join the University of Oklahoma as line coach for football and head wrestling coach. successor to be chosen. Wallace left Cornell after two successful seasons, with undefeated football and two-year undefeated wrestling records.
The Press Club hosts a dinner next Tuesday honoring F. A. Morcrip editor of the Marshalltown Times-Republican. Mount Vernon writer Karl Detzer praises Morcrip as a rare, sharp editor with broad knowledge. Morcrip will speak at 6 p.m. with Mount Vernon residents attending.
Hamline university exits with a 66 to 0 victory over Cornell as pitcher Jacobson fans eight and the defense clamps down. Kraft walks and Mackie hits spark a second inning run, while Schutt surrenders one early run and Hamline plates three more in the seventh before Anstrom relieves.
Alice Schwiebert delivered a charming senior expression recital Wednesday afternoon portraying Peyton a patient American sculptor and his ward Claudia with whom he falls in love minor characters were well done and the audience gained a glimpse of everyday happiness and hope.
The Burglar a one act comedy by Margaret Cameron was presented in Adelphian hall this morning in a very pleasing manner. The cast from Miss Baker's class in expression suited their roles as five girls Iola Isaacs Freda Eleanor Luse Valeria Bernice Brown Mabel Arthera Fink a fluffy flapper and Edith Cecil Ewing. Many students and visitors enjoyed the play.
Cornell plans to publicly present a campus meeting next Tuesday to unveil the Development Council’s blueprint. Administration faculty and students will participate as classes dismiss after chapel for a series of meetings. The plan aims to make Cornell an ideal small college with coordinated participation by student alumni faculty and trustees under President Updegraff.
Six Cornell basketball players received letters from the athletic board, with Hartwell claiming his third letter. Dean, Greene, Muilenberg, and Johnson also earned letters, while freshmen Stuart Anstrom, Dell Raymond, Lew Hord, Milton Babcock, Harry Hesser, and Oliver Wisgerhof were awarded numerals. Several players are varsity football veterans, and Raymond, Anstrom, Hord, and Babcock had varsity experience after the first semester.
Pete Patches, president of the YMCA, gave an illustrated talk about his European travels last summer at a joint YMCA gathering before the festival concert. Mirrorscope views from his photographs were featured.
Seniors will take final examinations a week early to allow time for commencement preparations and farewell social events before the class disbands. Exams start Thursday, May 28 and run through Saturday with a week of vacation before graduation on June 10.
Cornell and Coe colleges meet in a competitive dual track clash at Ash Park with a 10 00 a m start. The Kohawks lead in weight events while Coe emphasizes distance events and the quarter mile showdown between Cornell captain Barbour and Coe freshman Loftus highlights the meet.
Festival audiences are better prepared for concerts this year due to efforts by Miss Mary Helman teacher of Public School Music. Her open talks on festival music have greatly enhanced the enjoyment of the concerts.
The 1926 Royal Purple at Cornell receives high praise from the student body for originality and planning. Critics laud the art work for clever design and execution and note the yearbook centers on timeliness with a shift from razzberries to puffballs.
The May Music Festival opens with a two-violin concert by Sylvia Lent and Gilbert Ross drawing audiences from Cedar Rapids and beyond. Madame Merle Alcock presents song recitals featuring German Russian and French songs and old ballads. The Chicago Symphony under Frederick Stock performs a two-part program including Weber Ariosa and Schumann.
T R McConnell selects the journalism class staff to take over the May 23 Sunday Cedar Rapids Republican. Leedice McAnelly and Robert Howard will be associate managing editors with McAnelly also Society editor. Staff includes Winifred Mayne, Gerald Hill, E L Anthony, reporters James McCutcheon, Robert Bell, Charles Seymour, Scott Kintzley.
Alfred Wallenstein, renowned cellist with the Chicago Symphony, arrived in Mount Vernon Thursday with Mrs. Wallenstein and is staying with Dr. Wolfe. The performer presented a brilliant cello solo echoing last year's festival program, winning praise from the audience. his marriage followed shortly after the Mount Vernon concert.
