Montgomery Project Referendum Sparks Student Debate
At a Monday Student Council meeting Lee Hilliker reported on the Montgomery Project with laughter at the on page figures of 277.40 on deposit and 277.60 in expenses. Dick Wedel donated 25 cents to avoid any council funding for the Civil Rights Group and the turnout was large enough to move the meeting to the Formal Lounge. The evening featured a referendum on allocating student funds to non college sponsored activities and a review of a RA proposal for a two sport per semester program with mixed committee support and a 3 to 1 survey in favor. The council plans further discussion and a May 17 referendum date.

Monkey Court Revival Promised for Freshman Week
Sidles and Rick Schimmel announce the return of Monkey Court to freshman orientation week after a two year gap. The Court once marked the end of hazing but was halted in 1963 when paddling was banned.

Cornell Students Shine in Loras College Reading Contest
Six Cornell students competed in an interpretative reading contest at Loras College Dubuque last weekend. David Meyer won first for original material and second overall while Rick Ryan earned second for original poem and third overall. Other participants included Dale Vivirito Barry Shepard Ann Stephens Ruth Ann Keefe in non original categories with readings in poetry prose and women's poetry. Walter Stromer hopes to present readings at a chapel next fall.
