Chicago Symphony to Perform Twenty-Fifth Time at Cornell Music Festival

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, in its 36th season, will make its twenty-fifth festival appearance at Cornell May Music Festival in Mount Vernon on May 13 and 14. Founded 1891 by Theodore Thomas, the orchestra now led by Frederick Stock has 94 players and a 28 week season yielding 126 concerts. Other festival events include the Cornell Oratorio Society presenting Olaf Trygvasson with two soloists.

Intramural Baseball Sparks Thrilling First Round

The sophomores edged the juniors 4 to 3 in Ash Park diamond action with a late rally to stay undefeated. McGrath opened the fourth inning with a single and Wilkinson followed with a RBI hit, tying the game before the finish.

Tennis And Horseshoe Tourneys Open Soon

Toot Hill, intramural sports manager, announced entries for the tennis and horseshoe pitching tournaments must be in next Wednesday. Lists are posted in the gymnasium and in the YMCA room in Old Sem. The Men's Senate provides cups for tennis champions and the athletic department will buy trophies for horseshoe winners.

Trackmen to Face Beloit in Season Opener

Sixteen Cornell trackmen plus coach George Barbour travel to Beloit for the season’s first dual meet against the Blue Devils. Last year Cornell dominated 101 to 30 but losses among top scorers leave the Purple weaker in several events.

Northwestern U. Plans Ten New Buildings on Made Land

Northwestern University will add ten new structures costing millions on land beyond McKinlock campus at the east end of Chicago Avenue after the outer drive is completed. The plan includes a chapel, school of speech with theatre, unions for men and women, science laboratory, library, and music and education buildings, plus student dormitories and a fraternity row forming a McKinlock quadrangle.

Senior Exams Come Early On Schedule Of Semester Finals

The finals timetable, released by Professor Roy A. Nelson, shows seniors in two thirds of courses, with 70 percent of senior exams to be finished by Tuesday evening May 31. The plan slots senior exams early and avoids conflicts by pairing courses with multiple sections and by allowing some exams to run up to three hours.

The tenth Cornell Mother Book went on sale Thursday afternoon in the English Club office. It features a linoleum cut and a mother illustration, is larger than usual with twenty poems, and costs 15 cents with limited copies left at the office.

Appleton Elected Leader of Men's Senate at Grill Dinner

Lloyd Appleton born 1908 was chosen president of the Men’s Senate at a Grill Room dinner. Leo Genung and Binford Arney were named vice president and secretary treasurer, with Arthur Kindred and Paul Scott among new members. The group set to award keys under a point system, revised for wrestlers and Y M C A cabinet work, and announced plans for a forthcoming tennis tournament with loving cups for singles and doubles winners.
