Mischakoff and Saidenberg to perform at Chicago Festival

Violinist Mischa Mischakoff and cellist Daniel Saidenberg, principal cellist of the Chicago Symphony, will headline the festival program. Mischakoff, a Rus sian born virtuoso with a career including Moscow Opera, New York and Philadelphia posts, now soloist and concertmaster with the Chicago Symphony. Saidenberg, an American native, studied in Paris and at the Paris Conservatory and has been under Stokowsky for four years.

Littell to Attend Iowa Political Science Meeting at Cedar Falls

Phi Beta Kappa Initiation Tuesday

Five members were initiated into the Phi Beta Kappa scholastic society Tuesday in the English room before dinner. Initiates were Harold Hagg James Nauman Albert Nelson Lloyd Rahn and Florence Young. Hazel Cory Vernon Messman and Marvin Wilson had been initiated last fall. Dr C F Littell was toastmaster with Ver non Messman and Miss Carrie Woodford and Miss Florence Young giving toasts.

Cement Mix Experiments Show Curing Weaknesses and Strength

Arthur Rouse and Phillip Switzer test cement mixes using briquettes in various cures to compare strength. They find water curing boosts strength, richer mixes outperform lean ones, and dry batches can exceed very wet ones. Tests run from 24 hours to 36 days with failure at 15 to 380 psi.

Dr. Frank Cole, Cornell vice president, will address 27 senior class members in the High School Auditorium on Thursday evening May 21. His speech is titled Beyond the Doors of the High School. The M V H S Alumni Association banquet will follow the exercises.

Nominations For Men's Senate List Readied

On Tuesday morning nominations were announced for the Men's Senate with freshmen Fred Shadle and Phillip Putnam sophomores Newell Madison Art Crosby Paul Hickman and Lee Adamson juniors Maurice Rodges Kenneth Gray Lewis Hunter and Robert Hayes named. Elections are scheduled for Monday morning in the chapel.

Brahms Requiem to be Presented by Cornell Orchestra

The Cornell Oratorio Society will perform Brahms Requiem on Saturday evening May 9 under Professor Harry W. Baltz. The piece, based on Bible and Apocrypha texts, carries no funeral Mass intent and is linked to Brahms’s sorrow over his mother and friend Robert Schumann. The work features soprano and baritone solos, with a large orchestra and choir, in a program paired with a major symphony.
