First Annual Cornell Interscholastic Field Meet Plans

Cornell club committees briskly prepare for the Interscholastic Field Meet with expectant hosts from Burlington Cedar Rapids Marion Cedar Falls Anamosa Columbus Junction Mt Carroll and Cornell Academy. About 160 to 150 high school athletes are anticipated. 20 to 25 schools likely. A banquet for contestants and a light lunch after the Iowa Cornell game are planned with tickets limited to 100 for non contestants.

Alumnus Helms Honored for Morgan Memorial Work

A Zion's Herald tribute lauds Edgar J. Helms class of 1889 for leading Morgan Memorial’s mortgage relief in Boston Methodism. The piece calls him a living likeness of Jesus Christ, credits his leadership in saving the project, and notes Cornell pride in his achievements as a prominent alumnus. He was named delegate to the General Conference at the recent New England Southern conference.

Douglas Winner of Highest Honors in Prohibition Meet

Earl R. Douglas won the initial home contest of the Prohibition League at the day chapel, receiving a $25 prize from J. L. Tennant and earning a Cornell representation in the state contest next year. C. C. Hall and Miss Clara Chassell won second and third with $15 and $10. Speeches by Miss Chassell and Warren W. Anderson argued for prohibition as the nation’s antidote. Dr. Dillon Bronson and Hall were named delegates to the General Conference from New England Southern.

May Festival Seat Sale Promises Notable Singers

Preparations for the May festival are underway with Mme Schumann-Heink Arthur Shattuck and the Theodore Thomas orchestra tied to the Cornell event. Season tickets go on sale May 11 with single tickets available the morning of the concert.
