Grex day at Cornell planned with multi state guests

High school seniors from Iowa Illinois and Minnesota will visit for the annual Grex day on Saturday April 13 with a daylong program. Activities include registration campus tours an assembly in the chapel vocational panels lunch in dorms and a second assembly with music skit and Hamlin talk.

Westward From Germany panel causes spring fever uproar

In chapel Tuesday morning Beta Beta Beta talk is interrupted when Cab Wohlrabe rushes the stage seeking a doctor for Clara Slagle who is said to suffer spring fever or verdant low mood. Doctors Fais and consulting physicians MacGregor Sleezer Knouf and Leigh Vallee are called. Vocalists perform a swing tune ribbing escalation before an encore.

Spring recess begins Friday at noon March 29. Chicago alumni dinner April 6 at the Auditorium hotel. Recess ends April 8 at 7 45 a.m. Orchestra concert April 9 at 7 30 p.m. in the chapel. Elizabeth Swaney senior organ recital April 12 at 8 p.m. in the chapel.

Award Nineteen Musical Scholarships To High School Seniors

About 60 seniors from Town and Illinois competed at Cornell conservatory auditions. Nineteen scholarships totaling 1500 dollars were awarded across piano voice brass sections with multiple first and second prizes to students from Clinton Maywood Muscatine Chicago Waterman Rochelle Downers Grove Oskaloosa and more.

Cornell Choir Schedules Extensive Spring Tour

The Cornell choir departs the Hilltop for a week long spring tour led by Professor Devereaux with Mrs. Devereaux as chaperone. They perform in Marshalltown Eldora Reinbeck Charles City Cedar Falls Minneapolis and Mason City Methodist churches and will broadcast three times from WMT WTMC and WCCO.

Glass blowing talent blends art and science at Cornell

Philip Fay a Cornell junior and former Valparaiso student meshes glass blowing with chemistry. He spends 15 to 20 hours weekly exploring the craft, crafting improvised lab pieces and repairing flasks. He now works on a microfractionating column under expert guidance, using a blowtorch and breath to shape hot glass.

Cornell Symphony Orchestra Heads to Freeport Tour

The Cornell Symphony Orchestra of 60 members, led by Professor Lloyd C. Oakland, began a weeklong Illinois and Indiana tour from Freeport at 8 a.m. in two buses. They perform mainly in the Chicago area with a stop tonight at the Freeport Methodist church at 7 45 p.m. The group includes John Duckwall as senior violinist and assistant director and will later travel to Angola Indiana and Chicago.

Cornell Wrestlers Travel to Illinois Meet

Four Cornell wrestlers left for the University of Illinois at Champaign to compete in the National Collegiate meet. The event runs in four sessions from Friday afternoon to Saturday night. Lyman is out with a shoulder separation, replaced by Taylor in the 175 pound class. Birch, Tornquist, Joy, Taylor will compete in 128, 145, 165, and 175 pound classes respectively.

Cornell Debaters Begin Eastern Tour

The Cornell senior debate squad Dick Grumman Howard Jeske Max Miller and Charles Higbie with Professor Littell depart Sunday on an all day spring tour visiting Washington Gettysburg Springfield Richmond and Cincinnati The tour opens with a panel at First Methodist church Springfield Illinois. Debates are scheduled in Cincinnati Waynesburg Gettysburg and Westminster Maryland with Western Maryland College.

Chemistry club members embark on industrial tour

The Chemistry club will depart Monday by car for Madison Wisconsin to tour the Forest Products Laboratory Kimberly Clark Bergstrom Lakeview and Interlake mills Appleton and Neenah. They will also visit the Institute of Paper Chemistry with Prof Harry F Lewis. The itinerary includes John Manville in Waukegan Lindsay Light and Chemistry in West Chicago Indiana Standard Oil in Whiting and Armour Packing in Chicago. Participants include Roy McCauley Charles Harris Ed Jaynes John Cotham Bob Reideler Philip Fay and Professors Cocroft Culbertson.
