Vernon Jaynes Completes Intensive Physics Thesis
Vernon Jaynes of Parkersburg completed a 25 000 word senior thesis at Cornell titled Con duc tion of electricity in gases and X rays. The 141 page volume includes 39 illustrations with 21 large photographs and describes experiments radiation theory and electron charge formulas. He notes early radio interest sparked by a Chicago repair shop visit in 1921 and a home built crystal set with a 200 foot aerial.

Philosopher Slaght Laid To Rest In Mount Vernon Church
Funeral services for William E. A. Slaght were held at the local Methodist church with Rev. L E. Gough presiding. Cornell college officials praised him as a teacher of the highest type as pallbearers and Rotarian colleagues paid tribute to his life of scholarship and community service. He died Saturday afternoon after a long illness. he had lived in Mount Vernon for 12 years and previously taught philosophy at Baker University in Baldwin Kansas. He leaves a widow Minnie Deacon Slaght and three sons Morley Malcolm and Harry with two sisters.
