Four Students In Special Study At Cornell College

Four high school juniors admitted to Cornell college under a special educational project showed higher first semester averages than comparable regular freshmen. Easter Scripture and Music Presented in Chapel Services

Scripture depicting the experience of Christ on Holy Thursday and Friday was read in chapel services this morning by Dr. H. J. Burgstahler. Francis German, with Helen Venn at the piano, sang the sixth word from Du Bois The Seven Last Words.

Women’s Glee Club Performs in Chapel

The Women’s Glee Club directed by Miss Ruth Pinkerton sang four numbers in chapel on Wednesday morning. The selections included A Fairy Tale Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen Pirate Dreams and In the Time of Roses. Three of the pieces were featured at Cornell Night last Friday.

Slaght Improves After Health Setback at Northwestern

Prof. W. E. Slaght who planned a talk on Classroom Methods at a Social Science convention at Northwestern University Evanston was struck by acute indigestion Tuesday and withdrawn to his home. Doctors report improvement over the last two days and he is expected to resume teaching next week.

Margaret Stratton to Return to School in September

Margaret Stratton ex 32 will return to campus in September to complete her course after two years in college and two years teaching at Lime City. She will continue in the home economics department. Violet Stratton, freshman at Cornell, will take the Lime City position left by Margaret.

Dale Jones of Morningside College announces the Iowa College Press association final meeting plans to be held at Morningside in Sioux City on April 22 and 23. Dr Ralph Casey University of Minnesota will headline the banquet at Hotel Morton.

Writing Contest Opens for Cedar Rapids Students

April 1 marks the deadline for a literary contest sponsored by the Ladies Literary Society of Cedar Rapids open to Cornell and Coe College students. The Macbeth cast unveiled 31 costumes from Fritz Schoultz Company Chicago valued at 3000 dollars. College Calendar Events Reach From Theatre To Lectures

The college schedule lists The Seven Last Words on Friday and Macbeth on Saturday. Easter falls on Sunday as Phi Beta Kappa initiation and English Club meet Tuesday. Spring Recess begins Friday at noon and ends April 12 at 7 45 a m. Various lectures and recitals occur through April 27 with events including Nellie Verne Walker Everett Dean Martin and a student recital.

Eleven Students Perform In Conservatory Recital

One of the year’s most entertaining student recitals was presented in the chapel auditorium on Wednesday afternoon. Eleven conservatory of music students performed: Halsey Plummer, Sarah Reed, Richard Tims, Norman Meyer, Marguerite Leutenegger, Josephine Eyestone, Elizabeth Dalton, Leona Moulton, Alison Moore, Noel Hawkins, and Dale McConnell.

Coe Man To Address Science Club Here

Dr. L. D. Weld, physics professor at Coe College, will speak to the Science Club after vacation on the first Wednesday night in April at 6 40 in the geology lecture room. The talk is an exchange lecture for Prof Culbertson's Coe visit earlier this year. Weld, a noted physicist, has written a general physics text and a theory of least squares and has contributed to Milikan’s cosmic ray data work.

Engle Devendorf's Father Dies Today

Ervin L. Devendorf, class of 1908, died at his Berkeley home this morning after a heart condition. He served as YMCA Secretary for the University of California at Berkeley and directed branches in Berkeley and Los Angeles. Mrs. Devendorf, formerly Ilda Engle, and Engle Devendorf, class of 1935, planned to fly from Iowa City to California for the funeral.

English Club Plans Nobel Prize Debate

An informal debate will be held Tuesday evening March 29 in the English rooms at 7 o clock on whether Willa Cather was more deserving of the Nobel prize than Sinclair Lewis. Charlotte Fenstermacher and Harriet Holland take the affirmative while Winifred Plumb and Margaret Chamberlin take the negative.
