Piatigorsky to Perform on Cornell Chapel Concert

The noted cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, hailed as the greatest living cellist, will perform on the Cornell concert lecture course next Thursday at 8 oclock in the chapel. The romantic Russian artist has drawn packed audiences with his famed interpretations.

Rabbi Binstock to Speak on Hebrew Literature at Chapel

Rabbi Louis Binstock, Chicago religious leader, scheduled to appear Wednesday March 13 will lecture Monday at 8 pm in the chapel on The Romance of Hebrew Literature. He will discuss the Bible Talmud and Midrash and has recently traveled in Russia Germany and other European countries. He will also visit classes in the chapel Monday morning.

Easter Week End Programs Ready at College Chapels

The Easter sunrise service in the college chapel at seven on Easter morning is tentatively planned by the CCA with Charlotte Reinke expected to sing a solo. The service ends before breakfast in the dormitories. The high school church group plans a breakfast at the Methodist church. College organizers include Elbert Beaver Jim Bailey Rosie Munro and Jane Marie Pitkanen. Also the drama department presents Westward from Eden by Albert Johnson on March 23 at 2 30 p m and 4 p m in the Little Theatre, depicting biblical excerpts on the fall and resurrection.

Cornell Campus Creates Young Democratic Club at Grill

Seventy campus Democrats gathered at the Grill last Friday evening to form a Young Democratic club on the Cornell campus. Temporary chairman Francis Allen opened the meeting, with remarks by County Chairman Joseph Mekota and Cedar Rapids attorney George Claasson.

Vacation Schedule For Last Classes

The school adopts an early bus policy on Friday March 29 with no chapel service and an adjusted four class period morning. First through fourth periods run from 7:45 to 11:26 with lunch at 11:30. Absences from the last class before vacation or first after vacation incur a one dollar penalty per class.

Music Auditions Attract Students For Iowa Conservatory

Over 300 visitors arrive for the Cornell conservatory audition week with about 60 Iowa and Illinois high school seniors competing for two scholarships in each division. The opening concert starts at 8 p.m. with auditions beginning tomorrow at 9 in the chapel and Armstrong hall. Professor Lloyd Oakland and Elizabeth Bryant lead the program with faculty hosts at a post program reception in Armstrong exhibition room.

Eighth annual schoolmen conference opens tomorrow in Glencoe

The eighth annual schoolmen conference convenes tomorrow under Dr Samuel J Mc Laughlin Jr with Paul Misner of Glencoe Illinois leading the opening at 9 45 a m. Misner will outline the problem and discuss practical programs from Glencoe and other forward looking schools to improve community education. A panel of administrators will follow each address to discuss Misner's remarks.

College Choir to Present Annual Concert and Nine City Tour

The college choir led by Eugene Devereaux will perform its annual concert at 7 30 pm in the chapel before an audience and announce a spring tour spanning nine northern Iowa concerts and one in Minneapolis Minnesota The trip begins March 31 with two special buses and ends April 7 in Mason City Iowa The itinerary includes Toledo Marshalltown Eldora Clarion Reinbeck Charles City Cedar Falls Waterloo Minneapolis and Wesley Methodist Church in Minneapolis plus radio broadcasts and an April 6 stop on WTMC The program features works by Schutz Sweelinck Byrd and Dowland among others
