Purple Athletes Receive Awards for Season Work

Cornell varsity and freshmen wrestlers and basketball players received major letters and numerals from the Athletic Committee. The basketball group included captains Wallace McCullen and Dell Raymond, with several others earning numerals and letters. The wrestling team honored Captain Paul Scott and Maynard Bell among others. freshmen basketball players also received numerals. Dr N Knight judged an American Chemical Society prize essay contest.

New Yorker Wills Local Chemistry Fund Gift to Cornell

The Cornell board received a $2,000 gift from the estate of W. E. D. Stokes, New York hotel owner, to support a new chemistry building. Stokes, moved by a fair 1925 Chicago trial in Judge William N. Gemmill’s court, promised aid after Gemmill urged Cornell needs. Stokes died in New York about a year ago. the check was received recently.

DeMolays and Masons to Host Mount Vernon Party

All DeMolays and Masons of the college are invited to a party at the Masonic Hall Mount Vernon next Monday at 7 30 pm. The Mount Vernon Lodge No 112 social committee arranges the event with refreshments served after.

The Women's Athletic Association invites all college women to a tea dance at the gymnasium Saturday afternoon from 2 30 to 5 o'clock. The event aims to entertain the campus women and share social time.

Miss Jessie Rigby from the college library spoke at the Home Makers Congress held at the Iowa Railway and Light Corporation office. The event runs March 18 to 23 under the Home Service Department, featuring talks on subjects of interest to the modern home.

Debaters from Cornell and Lawrence Clash Over Hydro Power

Cornell and Lawrence College debated the principle that the United States should retain and develop its hydro electric sources. The Lawrence team Arthur Mueller and William Morton argued against, while Miguel Reynolds and Leland Pritchard for Cornell emphasized cheaper government power and tax advantages. No decision was rendered.

The Men's Glee Club will start its spring tour on April 4 with stops in Vinton Anamosa Dubuque Warren Mt Carroll Lanark Oregon Freeport Kirkland Rockford and a noon Centennial M E Church event in Rockford The group may travel by bus if roads permit and the itinerary was set by Prof John L Conrad and Louis Shoemaker.

Matmen Compete in Annual Joust

Twenty eight wrestlers from four college classes competed in the annual all college wrestling tournament held Tuesday and Wednesday. Seven weight classes ranged 115 to 175 pounds with large entries at 145 155 and 165. two contestants each in 125 135 and 175. Rogers a freshman won the 155 pound class after navigating stiff rounds. Allen advanced to the finals after a strong basketball season.

Canfield and Wilcox Named Yearbook Editors

Robert Canfield and Dwight Wilcox were elected to the editorship and business management of the 1938 Royal Purple by the sophomore class at elections held yesterday under the Men's Senate. Four of the candidates withdrew before the election. nominees included Carl Nelson Arnold Pedersen Basil Raffety Marvin Wilson Jay Fordyce and Francis Williams.
