Cornell Band Plans 1948 Nine City Iowa Illinois Tour

The Cornell College band under John Duckwall will tour nine Iowa and Illinois cities from March 30 to April 2 1948 performing marches solos and novelties. Included venues are Stanwood DeWitt Sterling Prophetstown Rockford Freeport Forreston Polo Chicago Heights and more with Duckwall and J M Macaulay announcing the schedule.

Education Class Visits Two Schools in Chicago Area

Miss Helen Flynn's class toured two Chicago area schools exploring new curriculums. They visited Evanston's New School with a core curriculum and the University of Chicago Lab School aimed at personalizing pre college study in ten grades.

Debaters Earn State Honors From Cedar Falls Meet

Cornell speakers brought home multiple superior ratings from the state tournament in Cedar Falls last weekend. Jim Vance, Jim Vaughan, Jean Rudesill, and Jim Asp earned superior in their events, with Vance and Vaughan also attaining superior in discussion. Vance and Kane earned excellent ratings in additional categories.

Gray Announces Deadline On Drops At Registrar Office

Walter B Gray registrar announces the end of the mid semester period as the latest time to withdraw without a failing grade. The nine weeks end is the deadline to make up E or incomplete grades from last semester. Students must visit the registrar to obtain make up cards. Nine weeks grades will be ready immediately after spring recess.

Red Cross Water Safety Course Offered Here

A Red Cross water safety course is offered next week for students and Mt Vernon and Cedar Rapids residents to become qualified to issue Red Cross certificates in swimming and life saving. The course starts Monday evening at 7:00 and meets at the same time daily. instructor is Frank Kinyon, St. Louis Red Cross field representative. Those with senior life saving certificates are urged to enroll.

Students Helped in Time Worldwide Public Opinion Poll

Cornell students and the International Relations club assisted Time magazine in a ten country international survey. The poll questioned attitudes toward the Marshall Plan United Nations and Western Europe plus views on what defines a good life. Results will shape speeches at a forum in New Orleans in mid April.

West of the Mississippi’s oldest music festival marks 50th year
