Noted Persons Attend Cornell Costume Party In Lisbon

The Purple Masquers and members of The Art Club English Club and Clef Club joined for a costume party at Ye Old Dutch Inn in Lisbon last Saturday night. Two bus loads of guests arrived from the Conservatory to join a dinner at 6 30 with no toasts. Mr William Shakespeare announced the absence of toasts and the audience applauded. The Masquers performed a one act farce featuring characters from The Torchbearers Ts Zat So Grumpy and Romeo and Juliet seen at Cornell this winter.

Freshmen-Junior Women Cup Honors in Swimming Meet

The W A A Tank meet last Friday crowned the freshmen and juniors 49 to 31 over the sophomores and seniors. Jere Annis wowed with diving and stunts while Miss Shem dazzled with swan dives. Individual event results highlight Edwards Skinner Gibson Flint Heyward Tallman and others across freestyle back side and breast strokes with Flint Edwards Skewis Gibson leading the scoring.

Teel Judges State Musical Contests

Prof. Stanley Teel of the department of public school music and director of the Cornell band served as a judge at the state high school musical contest in Washington Iowa last weekend. The event is part of a series of district contests to select schools for the final state competition. Teel judged bands orchestras and solo instruments.

Torch Selects Cornell Women for Honor Society

Five women were elected to The Torch senior women’s honorary society at chapel. Selections honor character, scholarship in the top 15 percent, and extra curricular activity. New members include Florence Simpson Leta Thompson Lucile Trump Freda Zemanek and Margaret Mahin with multiple campus roles noted.

Women Singers Tour Illinois During Recess

The Cornell Women's Glee Club under Miss Ruth Pinkerton starts a spring tour after the April 5 vacation. They perform ten concerts in Illinois with two tentative Iowa shows April 5 and 6, visiting Prophetstown Morrison Sterling Amboy Rochelle DeKalb Oak Park Geneva Franklin Grove Ashton and Franklin Grove again, with travel by a large Iowa Railway & Light Corp bus arranged by manager Robert Gardiner.

Debaters Engage Illinois Speakers on Power Question

A Cornell trio Carl Felt Leland Pritchard Miguel Reynolds debated Monmouth in Lombard and Galesburg with no decision. Beem reports the Cornell team had the better arguments, while another Cornell group faced a Monmouth negative on hydro electric power in Illinois with no decision.

Purple Quartet Finishes Second in Illinois Relay Carnival

Cornell's medley relay team placed second to Michigan Normal at the Illinois Relay Carnival held last Saturday. The quartet clocked 11 01 to finish behind a 10 48 9 winning time with eight teams entered. Captain Thorpe led off with a 4 37 mile leg despite a 2 05 starter, as Coach Judd Dean plans stronger workouts at Ash Park and targets the Minnesota Relays on April 6.

Lawrence Coach Sets Record With Debating Team

Professor A L Franzke of Lawrence College heads a tour with three debaters across eleven western and Pacific colleges. Since 1925 he has coached to seventeen victories and sixty non decision debates. The team, Arthur Mueller William Morton and Robert Beggs, has eight straight decision wins this season. Opponents include Michigan State Teachers College Kalamazoo Carroll Beloit and Marquette University.
