The college will close Altoona Hall to free spaces for a new off campus semester option in the BSS program. Twenty BSS students may study off campus starting 1973 74, and 24 additional single rooms will be added campus wide to cope with demand.
William Shepard of the religion department will present an honors lecture at 11 a.m. on Thursday March 15 in Maxwell Auditorium. The talk, third in the series on The Meaning of the 20th Century, focuses on the Arab Muslim world and the West’s impact on culture religion and politics with notes on alienation and authenticity.
Sixteen seniors are elected to Cornell College's Phi Beta Kappa chapter. Initiations occur April 18 with a banquet in Cornell Commons. Alumni member Donald E. Lawson joins the new initiates and an honors lecture by Dr. Eric C. Kollman follows at 8 p.m. in Armstrong Theatre. The list includes Clay Bauske Joyce Prudden Richard Johnson Rodney Black Kathy Rhynas DeWayne Birkhofer Elizabeth Seyfarth Clifford Lund Milenko Devic Andrew Taylor Robert Elliott Kathryn Deason Barbara Norland Jennifer Cline Diana Powell Wai Ling Tsui Thailand? and four seniors named last semester Rob Ash Susan Zimmerman Margaret Sellen Alexander Chang. Chapter officers are Dr. Jean Tompkins president Dr. William F. Carroll secretary and Dr. Richard L. Jacob vice-president.
As of Tuesday March 13 thirty three Cornell students entered the race for student government posts. Kevin Benford expects a record turnout for today’s primaries with seats in six boards and councils up for grabs. The final election is set for April 5 with ballots listing top two candidates and others who reach twenty percent of votes.
