Due to financial conditions The Cornellian will publish once a week for the rest of the school year. The board, meeting Tuesday afternoon after emergency bank holiday closure, slated Friday as the likely weekly day. Weekly size remains unchanged from the current year.
The Women s Glee club directed by Miss Ruth Pinkerton prepares an Easter program at Mount Vernon Methodist church. The traditional carols come from Spain France Bohemia Norway and other countries as the group presents a unique Easter concert for this region.
Post office officials, led by Glenn Rogers, warn students that letters and laundry parcels with improper closures face first class postage penalties. Enclosures inside laundry bags incur four cents per ounce for the entire weight, a costly charge of ten to twelve dollars for weekly laundry. Letters may be placed on the outside of the bag to use regular rates.
Cornell debaters Arthur Crosby and Wesley Burr upheld the affirmative on the banking question against Coe College Cedar Rapids. A broadcast debate Sunday at 9 PM on KWCR Cedar Rapids will feature Arthur Young and William Reynolds arguing the affirmative in an open forum on banking legislation.
Juilliard Foundation singer Francis German will present a vocal recital in the chapel auditorium at 8 p m on Friday March 17 Miss Helen Venn piano instructor at the Conservatory of Music will accompany He will open with works by Beethoven and Handel The program continues with Schumann Dichterliebe text by Heine and last a set of songs by modern English composers plus one piece by Powell Weaver
Margery Jensen and Kellogg Hunt conducted a senior English comprehensive seminar titled Wednesday with a discussion of renaissance literature and Spenser. Virginia Kincaid will head the next seminar reviewing Milton. The meeting is at South hall at 8 o clock.
Altoona hall proctors gather in Gale Henke room to discuss discipline on their floors. Proctor Stan Joslin advocates firm handling with rough treatment to deter mischief, while Benny Douglas and Stuart Frazier face scrutiny over a ukulele and study disruption. Henke emphasizes paternal understanding and a calm approach with bath tub parties. Newell Madison notes letting boys have some freedom but guiding with floor standards and occasional discipline from Henke.
Dr. Floyd Reeves urged faculty to introduce orientation or general survey courses in colleges. Dean T. R. McConnell cites Cornell's progress, noting orientation aids synthetic knowledge and general education within departmental curricula.
The second vesper series by the C C A will be Sunday March 12 at 4 PM in the chapel. Rev Harry D Henry of Iowa City will give a short address. The college choir will sing three numbers and Paul Wilkinson of the C C A board will preside.
Dr. H. J. Burgstahler, president, and Dr. Frank Cole, vice president, departed Mount Vernon Thursday morning for Des Moines on college business and expect to return Friday night.
The campus outlines events for the weekend with a Poverty party on Saturday March 11 and a C C A vesper service on Sunday March 12. Students are invited to join both gatherings at campus venues reflecting student life activities.
High school senior girls were handed to a Grex committee Tuesday morning in chapel. Invitations will be sent for the guests of the college on March 24 and 25. The Girls Grex committee met in Prof S L Chandler's classroom last Monday. The Ladies Aid of the First Methodist church will serve luncheon at 12 30 Saturday March 25. Friday night features include solos a one act play and other acts. Saturday morning features a style show by the home economics department. A play day is planned under the direction of the W A A.
Robert Dick Choate junior, who traveled to Mayo Brothers clinic Rochester Minn for removal of three extra cervical ribs, is reported resting comfortably and expects to return after the spring vacation per a Tuesday card.
Cornell's thirty fifth May Music Festival will present three concerts by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Frederick Stock. The programs include two performances on Saturday May 13 and a Friday evening concert. The Chicago Symphony makes its thirty first Cornell appearance and will also perform with the Cornell Oratorio Society in Elgar's Scenes from the Saga of King Olaf. Soloists and other details remain unannounced.
Archie Carter spoke on Dams and Their Construction during the Math club meeting in Professor McGaw's classroom. He noted beavers built dams before humans and cited early examples on the Tigris and Nile rivers, focusing on Roosevelt New Croton Elephant Butte and Marathon dams.

Dr C L Rich told a chapel audience that the current panic will not wipe out money but spur a better banking system. He described the gold standard, dollar value as 23 22 grains of gold, and explained the holiday off gold status and the role of confidence in banks amid wavering trust.
