Death of Dr Hugh Boyd Noted Cornell College Faculty Member

Dr Hugh Boyd died at his Mount Vernon home on March 6 after years of poor health. He served Cornell College for 35 years, 25 as Latin head and 10 as Greek and Latin professor. He was acting president in 1873 and 1874 and became Professor Emeritus of Latin in 1906. Born August 6, 1835 in Keene Ohio, he studied at Ohio University and taught in Ohio public schools before joining Cornell College.

Five Iowa Academy of Science Members Elevated

Five members of the Iowa Academy of Science have been elected to the Iowa Academy of Science. Named are President Charles W. Flint, Dr. George H. Betts, Professor Frederick M. McGaw, Mr. Harold Maxwell. The Iowa Academy covers material and social sciences. Dr. Nicholas Knight of Cornell Chemistry has helped Cornell's strong society representation.

Aletheans Initiate Banquet in Church Hall Decor

The Aletheans held a banquet in the Methodist church parlors with an arch of pink and white. Prof. O. H. Smith acted as toastmaster guiding the Alethean Car while Faith Culver pledged promise as a freshman. Lucille Randall managed party destinies and Elsa Strawman sat in the Back Seat as the car was dismissed.

Death of Mr Sortor Reaches Mount Vernon In Illness

Students learn of Mr Sortor's death as Ralph and Edith Sortor traveled to Kansas City to be with their father before the news reached Mount Vernon. The school voted in chapel to send telegraph sympathy to the bereaved family. Harold Sorter, who left school earlier, is ill but improving.
