Informal Tea Invites Students for Cooperative College Talk

Administration and faculty invite students to an informal tea Thursday at 4:00 in the social rooms to discuss what students want from their education and how the college can serve their needs. A round table will address course difficulties and faculty ideas.

Freshman Girls Win Basketball Tourney

The freshmen girls won the W. A. A. basketball tournament after a double round robin among three teams. The second tournament began last night featuring teams from Bowman Pfeiffer and Rood and the town girls.

Reports show competition for grade points among men's dormitories with Roodhouse at 1.66 average, Bowman and Pfeiffer tied at 1.55, Guild at 1.42, Burgstahler 1.41, Altoona 1.37, Coleman 1.29, The Grill 1.25, and Delt 0.96.

Dr. H. J. Burgstahler, president, attended an alumni meeting in Minneapolis on Monday and today. He planned a business trip to Chicago on Wednesday and was to return to the campus Thursday morning.

Leeper Tests No-Grade Plan in Psychology Course

Professor Robert Leeper experiments with a no-grade system in General Psychology this semester. Grades are only recorded for the nine weeks exam and the term final. He says students like it and work hard and believes it may move toward abolishing grades entirely.

Women May Invite To Dance Saturday

A woman's invitation dance will be held at the gym Saturday evening at eight o'clock. Mickey McGowan's orchestra from Iowa City will play. The admission is twenty five cents per person. Lucille Roach is in charge.

In the latest Cornellian Helen Emerson was left out of the list of nominees for president by the Women’s Athletic Association. The omission appears in the current edition of the student newspaper.

Sophomore Class Activities Show Wide Campus Involvement

The class of 1937 displays broad campus participation from athletics to publications. Wrestling leads popularity among men, with tennis for men and basketball for women close behind. many sophomores ride horses and roller-skate. They publish or write for The Cornellian and As We Are, join English and Writers clubs, and engage in music and the Oratorio Society. Girls favor card games and dancing. many majors are Economics, English, and Mathematics. Most women plan to teach, do social work, or enter journalism.

Uncle Vanya staged this weekend in Little Theatre

The second International Drama Cycle entry sponsored by the speech department presents Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. Performances are Friday March 8 at 3 PM and Saturday March 9 at 8 PM. This edition of The Cornellian is produced by sophomore journalism students led by Charlotte Radcliff under Prof. Clyde Tull. Miller Composition Played In Chapel

Prof. Horace Alden Miller performed two pieces in chapel last Tuesday, Miller Composition and Gordon Balch Nevin's O er Still Meadows, with chimes woven into the organ lines. President Burgstahler spoke briefly about the Singing Tower at Mountain Lake Sanctuary near Lake Wales Florida and noted Anton Brees, the leading carillonneur, on his trip south.

Debaters To Take Extensive Trip Across Colleges

Charles Mason and Robert Johnson will debate Columbia College and University of Dubuque in Dubuque on Wednesday then Carroll College in Waukesha Wisconsin on Thursday and Lawrence College in Appleton Friday. Freshmen debaters meet two I C T C teams Wednesday afternoon and Elkader junior college teams Saturday afternoon. Dorothy Downs and Eleanor Atkinson argued for munitions affirmatives against Drake women Wednesday night while Drake countered with an anti ban plan. Frank Mannheimer to Perform in Cornell Chapel Tuesday

Foremost American pianist Frank Mannheimer, a Matthay School of Music instructor in London, will appear at Cornell college chapel on Tuesday March 12. He is praised for championing American music in Europe and has performed new American works in Rome and at IMS concerts.

Livingston Speaks On Pacific Affairs at ISA Meeting

Pulling Strings Her Specialty Betty Schmidt Makes Marionettes

Betty Schmidt '37 excels in marionette making and puppeteering in the art department. She creates dolls with up to fifteen strings, learns stage craft and lighting, and spends about a day per marionette. Early works include Amos and Andy and Peter Pan. Rip Van Winkle and Ali Baba are popular shows.
