Cornell Math Dept Proposes Courses After Rhoades Visit

B E Rhoades of the Consultants Bureau visited Cornell on February 4 to assess the undergraduate math program. He urged more applied math and practical skills for non majors. Proposals include adding Math 231 Applied Mathematics and Math 305 Numerical Analysis, dropping Math 101 and 102 for Math III and II6 Techniques of Calculus, plus Math 131 Introduction to Computer Techniques and Math 124 offered out of sequence next fall.

Missouri Welfare Crisis Prompts Urgent Legislature Action

Missouri residents faced with an imminent welfare funding gap as 1971 appropriations run dry by February or March after a late Special Session failed to pass emergency welfare funds. The Medicaid program was cut in July and federal HEW review threatens loss of federal welfare money. Public appeal urged to pressure representatives to pass emergency, restore cuts, and back pending welfare bills.

Cornell College Mount Vernon Hosts Five Day Folk Festival

Cornell College presents a five day folk festival from March 17 to 21 sponsored by the Commons Union Board. The program features movies poetry readings theater dance and concerts with artists such as Danny Cox Mike Johnson Richard Hugo Mark Gaddis Phyliss Griffith and Omega. Final times and venues remain tentative with campus announcements expected.

Mount Mercy War Forum Set by Contemporary Issues Club

Mount Mercy College will host a war forum on March 4 with four speakers from diverse groups. John Randall from NUC Clyde Brown former state moratorium chairman Richard Bender of the Democratic state central committee and Joel Myklebust from the Iowa Council to Repeal the Draft will address participants. A spokesman said ending the Indo China war is urgent and mass protest must continue to pressure the administration.

Outka to Lecture on Civil Disobedience at Cornell College

Cornell College hosts a March 3 panel discussion on Revolution in America and a March 4 lecture on Civil Disobedience and Justifiable Violence led by Dr. Eugene Outka of Princeton. The events, moderated by Dr. Nicholas Berry, feature eight panelists and open free to the public.
