Beyond the Horizon at Cornell Opens Critics Night

Rehearsals for Eugene O Neill s Beyond the Horizon progress for the first O Neill production at Cornell aimed at townspeople and critics. It opens Saturday March 5 with repeat shows March 11 and 12. The Pulitzer winner follows Robert Mayo as he dies in futile yearning to sail away with Ruth Weber, Andrew Muncy and others in a cast led by Ruth Weber and directed by Bob Hartung.

Cornell Symphony to Tour Midwest for 34th Year

The Cornell Symphony Orchestra directed by Lloyd Oakland will begin its 34th annual spring tour on Friday April 1. The 45 musicians travel by bus and cars with instruments in a van. Soloists include Geraldine Bryant violinist Al Klinger clarinetist and Sheldon Rahn in a vocal arrangement with orchestra.

Karl Andrist Plays 200-Year-Old Gobetti Violin Sunday

American violinist Karl Andrist will perform a Sunday recital at 4 p.m. in the Chapel Auditorium using a 1718 Francesco Gobetti violin from Venice. He has tours and concert credentials in New York Town Hall and with Canadian orchestras, and is joined by Eugene Devereaux on organ and piano. The program includes works by Vivaldi Haydn Szymanowski Pierne-Dushkin Boulanger and Wieniawski.

Music Library On Campus Boasts 959 Record Collection

Edith Carver operates the campus music library in Armstrong Hall where a phonograph plays favorite records from a collection of about 959 discs. The Carnegie Foundation funds the library, allowing any student to listen to quality music on site.

Swing Trio Opens Wednesday Amateur Shows

Merner's swing trio Loren Helberg clarinet Jack Peterson piano and Bob Osburn bass performed a fifteen minute swing set last Wednesday night in Merner’s social rooms with dancing and listening to Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey records. The rooms host dancing and games Wednesdays and Thursdays from seven to eight fifteen with weekend activities when no college program is scheduled. Mrs. M. W. Fussell attends and can help arrange kitchen snacks or practice in good housekeeping. Pfeiffer Hall plans an amateur show this Wednesday drawing a large crowd.

Grace Fowler Shines In Senior Recital

Grace Fowler contralto presented in her senior recital praising her charming stage presence and expressive voice. under Francis German she earned praise for emotional depth and beauty. Her program included Schumann Frauenliebe und Leben sung in German with Elizabeth Swaney on piano.
