Barker schedules Wisconsin eleven for opening game

The Wisconsin match on October 2 1926 replaces an anticipated Grinnell game after Grinnell declined the early date. Barker argues no advantage to big schools and notes Wisconsin will field eleven men with experience. He says Grinnell was offered three dates and declined. conference games keep the team in its class.

Class Cage Games Start Tomorrow For Eight Teams

Eight basketball teams from four classes prepare for two division class cage games. Juniors and seniors train Monday and Wednesday. sophomores and freshmen train Tuesday and Thursday. Varsity or fresh varsity players are ineligible. First games start Saturday at 1 45 pm.

The Y W C A held its first meeting of the new year in the new quarters. The room was attractively furnished with a fireplace and flowers. Grapplers Prepare for Des Moines U Meet

Cornell wrestling coach Barker readies the team for a Des Moines University meet on January 16 in Des Moines. Preliminary trials are set for next Saturday at 2:20 PM with final matches Tuesday afternoon. Captain Julius Jorgenson, sidelined by a hip dislocation last year, leads a squad including five veterans and several promising freshmen as they also plan to face Ames this Saturday in practice.

W S G A Exhibits Paintings at Library Monday

The W S G A will show color reproductions of famous masterworks in the library’s English room Monday afternoon. Girls may register for the circulating library of paintings, with selections available for the first month. Lloyd Dean known as Judd Dean was chosen captain of the basketball squad before the Illinois trip during Christmas vacation. Dean, a forward and top scorer, joins Hank Hart as the second man in two years to captain both football and basketball teams in the Midwest conference.

Cornell Basketball Team Opens 1926 Fall Trip in Illinois

Cornell opened the 1926 season with a practice trip to Illinois posting two losses and one win. They defeated Wesleayan 28 19, beat Millikin 28 1 28, and fell 28 27 to Bradley Tech in a tense finale. Captain Dean was ejected on a foul and Saalwaechter shuffled the lineup with Munlenberg at center and Johnson Anstrom as guards.

Religious Poems Read At Y.M.C.A. Thursday

Attendees at the Y M C A meeting heard poetry read by Professor Clyde Tull. He presented nature themed verses and sociological poems stressing life’s mysteries and humanity’s relation to Christ. The session ended with a reading of a prayer by John Drinkwater.

Fire Destroys Ada Miller Rooming House During Vacation

A furnace explosion sparked a blaze at the Ada Miller rooming house in Mount Vernon leaving nine students homeless. The fire department saved the structure from total loss though clothing and personal effects were ruined by water and smoke. The displaced students relocated to other rooming houses.

Cornell heiress leaves 100000 for Newson Fund endowment

The late Ella D. Newson wills 100000 to Cornell University endowment to be kept intact. Only interest will be used with debts and executor fees paid first. The estate includes 580 acres in Kansas and North Dakota and a Tipton residence. Special solicitor H D McBroom and officials plan fundraising in Chicago and other areas.

Plays By Mrs. Tull Score Great Success

Jewell Bothwell Tull's Christmas play The Magic Star was staged in nineteen towns and cities including churches in St. Paul St. Louis and Rochester New York. Her farce Seeing Red was produced in Curtis Nebraska and Her Son's Wife will be presented soon at Sapulpa Oklahoma. The Gorilla is in rehearsal at St Ambrose College Davenport and in Hailsboro New York and will be broadcast by WCAD from St. Lawrence University Canton New York.
