Plans for Cornell Dormitory Approved for 128 Men

The men’s dormitory project at Cornell received formal approval from the building committee. It will house 128 students with ground floor amenities including a game room a hobby room a pressing room a small lunch room and kitchenette. Upper floors provide sleeping rooms with a lounge on the second floor and private baths possible. The committee will review bids from nine contractors with architect W J Brown of Cedar Rapids present.

President to Show Campus Films at Alumni Meetings

New Serial Begun By Writers' Club

In the spring a young man's fancy may lightly turn to thoughts of love but in the new Writers' club serial A Casanova of 1936 the freshman hero finds himself entangled two years after Christmas vacation. The story will be handled as The Case of the Hanging Head, with writers chosen by Prof Clyde Tull. Names of authors likely not announced.

Charles Mason, a Southern Indiana resident, will address College League next Sunday evening on the Old-Time Religion. He will describe revival meeting experiences and use them as the basis for his talk.

Fay Cooper Cole anthropologist and lecturer at Chicago University arrives on campus January 1T to discuss his Field Museum Malay expeditions. He is known for travels among Pagan tribes in the Philippines Malay Peninsula Sumatra Java and Borneo and for authoring Making Mankind and The Long Road.

Gray To Organize 34 Alumni Clubs

Gray organizes 34 Cornell Alumni clubs across Iowa under Walt Gray. ten active now with plans for twenty four more. November and December meetings occurred in Grundy Center Anamosa Sigourney Ames Algona Newton across districts. January plans include Boone Ida Grove and Waverly.

Coffman Honored Twice At Tourney

Captain Eldon Coffman received the most valuable player award at the Augustana invitational tournament held in Rock Island December 27 and 28 where Cornell captured second place. Coffman also earned a spot on the first all tournaments team with Cline and Birkhahn earning second team berths.

Poetry Readings by Radsliff and Weber at Chapel

Poems by Charlotte Radsliff and Carl Weber were read by Weber at the student chapel. Among the readings was Pigeons by Radsliff which won third prize in the 1984 Forum magazine contest. Glenn Bostrom led the service.

Students Attend Quadrennial Youth Volunteer Conference in Indianapolis

Cornell delegates Pearl Putnam Mary Ellen Moore Paul Putnam Arthur Maynard Milton Nothdurst Esther Buswell and Luella V. Ninde joined the twelfth quadrennial Student Volunteer conference in Indianapolis from December 28 to January 1. Archbishop William Temple led keynotes stressing belief as proof of reality and a Father not a taskmaster, while Toyohiko Kagawa drew crowds with a call to bear the cross into daily life and warn civilization’s crisis.

Kagawa To Be On Campus Feb 27 28

Toyohiko Kagawa the Japanese religious leader will visit Cornell College for two days of delegate conferences on February 27 and 28. He arrives amid a seven month U S speaking tour and will address youth groups and adult faith groups including denominational ministers and peace and labor advocates.

Miller To Offer Own Compositions Sunday

Horace Alden Miller will present an organ recital at 4 o clock Sunday afternoon in the college chapel. He will play a group of his own compositions titled The Indian World including The Indian Flute Barbaric Splendor and Largo After New World. A group Fireside Fancies by Clokey will include The Kettle Boils Wind in the Chimney A Cheerful Fire Grandmother Knitting. Other composers whose work will be presented include Rheinberger Gabrieli Merulo and others.

Eight Attend W A A Meeting At Cornell College

Eight members will represent the Cornell Women's Athletic Association at the State W A A convention at Coe College on January 11. Ruth Coffman will lead a round table on what W A A offers that others do not. Fourth Cornell Chapbook in Preparation Report

The fourth Cornell chapbook titled Hey Day in Ioway is being prepared for publication featuring light satirical verse by Iowa poets. A reprint of Seven Ages and Other Poems by Jewell Bothwell Tull is under way since the original supply has run out.

Animal Life Movie Shown By Science Club

Films depicting wild animal life in Canada were shown in the geology lecture room on Thursday Dec 19 at 4 p m under the Science club. Topics included elk and other big game animals and smaller animals like the fox plus a reel on buffalo life. Two reels covered Banff region scenery and skiing. The Canadian National Park service supported the films.

Stained Glass Exhibit Shows Here All Week

A week long display from the Nicola D Ascenzo studios Philadelphia includes eight stained glass panels and sketches plus two murals and molded glass samples. Notable works from Riverside Church New York City and Chartes Cathedral are featured with pieces from Washington Memorial Chapel Valley Forge and Yale Princeton libraries. Free admission but visitors should sign the register and contributions aid campus art programs.

Hutchinson Plans Series of Latin Texts

Prof. Mark E. Hutchinson returning from New York announces plans to write a series of elementary Latin texts. The first book should be ready in 18 months and published by Prentice-Hall. Co authored with Richard Walker of Bronxville High School. Hutchinson attended a joint convention of the American Philological Association and the Archaeological Institute of America at the Hotel Astor.

Catalog Release Planned By February First

The 1936-37 catalog will be ready for use by February first, announced Dean T. R. Mc Connell. Changes in curriculum for the second semester will be contained therein. Special copies for students will be available as usual.
