Cornell cagers visit Hamline in a conference clash as Hamline, near the bottom standings, comes off a 60 42 loss to Ripon. Crosgrove and Graves pace Hamline with scoring fire while Dean’s squad aims to counter with strong defense and rebounding.
Four students join the Ollapod staff to prepare for the spring number due in late March. Virginia Jameson contributes feature writing to the Cornellian and other papers. Marjorie Holmes has verse in the Ollapod and Husk and is recognized as a sketch artist. Hildegarde Wrage is noted as one of the campus best artists. J Jennings Klimo is a special student in the art department and has done illustrations for the Husk and Ollapod.
Paul Whiteford has accepted the chairmanship of the committee planning the Powrh Lea gue services for the balance of the school year. The vacancy arose after the mid term resignation of Lewis Carpenter. The committee will remain the same.
A sophomore foods class of 24 students guided by Mrs. Ninde rode a bus at 7:45 to Cedar Rapids for a tour of food materials facilities. They visited Sinclair meat packing company Acme candy Peterson Baking and Quaker Oats to see irradiation and grain processing. The group attended the Municipal Building Food Show and viewed an Iowa Railway & Light model bungalow before returning to Mount Vernon at five.
Cornell University debaters Robert Canfield Howard Palmer and Kindy Cook face Nebraska Wesleyan next Tuesday at 6 40 p m in the Social Rooms. The trio will argue the negative on the disarmament question promising a new angle to the usual debate. All three debaters are on varsity for the first time, with seminar experience this year.
Dr. N. Knight is named among the 198 chemists in the United States who belong to the Deutsche Chemische Gesellschaft. The society headquarters are in Berlin and the total membership stands at 5,265.
A freshman recounts an evening at a rooming house where a stern owner orders shoe polishing and a paddle. The narrator navigates the attempt to study while the owner demands discipline and a dramatic confrontation ensues before continuing to the staircase.
Sunday at four o'clock the new C A officers will be installed in the club room on Main Hall third floor. A revaluation of the C C A will follow, with a brief outline of the program for the rest of the school year and plans for next year to be discussed. The group hopes to elect chairmen for three projects though no definite plans have been set yet. The new officers seek student input on the discussion and consider an extension project to continue C I C A activities and orient freshmen on campus.
Cornell freshmen edged the Martelle Independents 21 to 18 on the focal court last night. Perry White opened with two baskets and led a steady Cornell scoring pace, with James and White trading early baskets to knot the score. Dragoo and James added late points as Cornell held every quarter except the last.
The Mens Glee Club sang at the chapel service Thursday morning February 27. The program featured The Cossacks, MacDowell Mother Love, Voigt Invictus Come O Come, Old Flemish Folk Song, and encores by Alexander, Brewer, Protherae, Sprinning Song, Siefert.
The annual all college wrestling tournament begins Monday at 4:00 p m with first round bouts. Weigh–ins occur between 9:45 and noon Monday. Weights include 125 135 145 155 165 175 and heavyweight. Finals are Tuesday 4:00 p m. Medals will be awarded to winners.
The Science club will meet Tuesday evening at 6 40 in the Geology Lecture room. Professor Moots will discuss snow and ice crystals, with numerous slides illustrating the talk.
The Tuesday debate on disarmament featured six students with three affirming and three opposing views. Lybarger Fowler and Trump argued for limits on armaments and peaceful means, while Taylor Frink and Holmes cautioned about international trust and treaty limits.
A group of track men Thorpe Davis Deere Swaney Macaulay Kouba Housel and Sherman trained this afternoon at the University Field House Iowa City to pace in the quarter half and three quarter distances. Relay team for the Illinois Relays at the University of Illinois on March 15 will be chosen from this group. Last year Cornell finished second in their medley event beaten by Michigan Normal.
Professor T R McConnell of the Education department joins a committee appointed by the Educational Council of the Iowa State Teachers Association to recruit and promote gifted teachers and supervisors Dr Ernest Horn of the State University of Iowa Elementary Education is the committee chair.
Currie Construction Co of Waterloo awarded private contract to build a four story T shaped dormitory for Cornell women. J G Ralston of Waterloo is architect with an eastern consulting architect. Building costs about 100000 dollars funded by Henry Pfeiffer and wife of New York City, with completion targeted between August 10 and 165.
Cornell affirmative team will meet Carleton at 8 tonight in the social rooms. It is the third varsity debate this season with prior matchups against Simpson and Grinnell. Opal Lybarger opens, Winifred Fowler sides, Lucille Trump closes the case. Speeches run 10 10 12 minutes with 5 5 7 minute rebuttals. A 6 o'clock dinner at Bowman hall precedes, followed by a reception for Carleton students.
