Freshmen dressed in Colonial garb led a lively evening at Cornell gym on Saturday night. Coeds showcased elaborate costumes while the glee club, shrill singing, and a Virginia reel kept spectators entertained until the 11:30 bell ended the event.
Miss Rose Evelyn Baker of Cornell college head of the Depart ment of Oratory, addresses a crowded Tipton Lutheran church despite stormy weather and a lights outage. She reads Jim Fenton's Wedding and The Man in the Shadow with magnetic stage presence and deft interpretation, keeping the audience engaged throughout the program.
Cornell college basketball fell to Coe 29 to 24 in a slow game marked by rough play. Allanson and Grigsby were ejected after altercations with the referee, disrupting the lineup as the second half began.
Jeanette Gemmill, a former Cornell student now at Northwestern, raised half her San Francisco fare by a risky market play. She bought 1000 bushels of wheat on margin when prices were high and sold at a profit, claiming $110. She and Geraldine Smith planned Sunday night suppers for fraternity guests at 25 cents a plate but stopped after thirty accepted.
In Toledo Iowa Leander Clark beat Cornell 33 to 16 in a bargain counter game. Referee Leo introduced a new foul calling method and the floor and baskets hindered Cornell while Clark impressed with sharp passing and tenacity.
A fake basketball game split the Dee Cornell event into halves staged by the Junior class. A player fired a revolver at the referee amid lively tricks and a piano descended onto the floor while crowd singing followed as Yell master Manly conducted the second half.
