Strong program at Iowa Student Convention in Mount Vernon

Friday evening at seven thirty opens the State Student convention in Cornell with an informal social at the M E Church parlors. At eight o clock President Marquis of Coe College will speak on The Relation of the Individual to Christs Program for the World in the Auditorium. Delegates from every college in Iowa, about three hundred, will be hosted by Mount Vernon residents and Cornell students.

Teams picked for triangle debate

Inter collegiate debaters form two balanced teams for triangle debate on the Sherman Act with Beloit and Knox. Reitzell Tallman Bradley E Lott will face Knox at Knox. Marvel Hill Jordan will meet Beloit at Cornell. All three schools boast strong reputations and high preparation.

Cornell Five Falls to Iowa 24 to 10 in Rough Contest

Poor shooting and slumping teamwork marked a closely contested first half as Cornell trailed 9 to 8. Iowa pulled away in the second period with stronger defense, while Cornell guards Carhart and Cramer failed to convert several chances. Reitzell led Cornell with four free throws, but fouls and miscues sealed the Hawkeyes’ 24 to 10 victory.

Near Hold-Up On Westbound Mail Near Bertram

Five bandits attempted a train hold up near Mount Vernon before Bertram around 2:00 am. The engineer sped away after a signaling error, an assailant fired injuring the engineer in the arm. Authorities search the Bertram woods for suspects.
