Twelfth Colonial Party at Cornell Gym Teases Washington Birthday

Senior class hosts Cornell s twelfth Colonial party in the gym on February 18. Glee club, orchestra, a freshmen stunt, and grand march feature the evening with costumes from 1750 and modern gowns. Practice Friday 6 40 p m at the gym to honor the event and aid the march.

Yearling Cage Squad Picked After Scrimmage

Coach Sander son selects twelve freshmen for the yearling basketball squad after a scrimmage with the varsity. The group includes Robert Briggs Ivan Boylan Lester Dyckman Kenneth Greene Henry Hartwell Jonathon Lister Clifford Lyons Elwyn Miller Vernon Morrison Donald Parsons Jay Speake and Homer Townsend. They will receive jerseys and elect a captain soon. A game with Tipton is slated for this afternoon followed by Cedar Rapids next week and future contests with Marion Springville and other local high schools.

Mt Vernon High Girls Lead Y W Meeting on Thrift

Mt Vernon High School girls group will chair the Y W Thursday at 6 40 in Philo hall. President Mabel Mitchell will lead the session focusing on thrift with four girls giving talks and a picked quartet providing a musical specialty.

Practice for the grand march at the Colonial party is set for Friday evening at 6 40 in the gym. The session will end early enough to allow time for any other affairs scheduled.

Miss May notes that arranging objects reflects good design and that art students apply design principles to practical work with Mount Vernon merchants planning more displays before year’s end.

Odds and Evens Clash in Season Opener

The first real basketball game of the season between the Odds and the Evens is set for six forty this evening in the gym. Captains Kuster and Krogh have drilled their teams in passes and shooting as Wednesday matches run five weeks toward a final championship game.

Juniors Take Narrow Lead in Class Tournament

In a tight interclass contest the sophomore team edged the Fishman squad 14 to 14 after four extra minutes. Owens and Wilson led with nine points each as Kober Benesh Lenhardt and Hooper stood out for the sophomores and freshmen. The win shifts standings, dropping the yearlings to second and moving sophomores to third.

Lecture on Our Animal Friends and Foes at Cornell

Dr Raymond L Ditmars renowned zoologist will present a Monday evening lecture at 8 about Our Animal Friends and Foes at the college chapel. The lecture features wildlife scenes blending instruction and amusement and is backed by notable organizations. Tickets for nonstudents are seventy five cents, students use the semester ticket.

Literary Lights Contest Aims To Boost High School Writing

The Cornell English club announces its fourth annual high school theme contest for Iowa students. First prize is twenty dollars, second prize ten dollars. Entries include themes, short stories, and essays from any Iowa high school. Judging will be by five English department faculty members. Last year’s winners included Lester Culley of Iowa Falls for A Strange Case with runners up Walter Crissey Storm Lake and Laura Mitchell Algona.

Anamosa Men Defeat Freshmen In Saturday Game

The Anamosa high school team edged the freshmen 25 to 17 as Van Deusen led the visitors with repeated long shots. Freshmen struggled to score despite possession and superior teamwork, with Morrison scoring the lone first-half point and the game opening fast before substitutions.

Urbana Indoor Set To Be A Big Midwest Indoor Meet

Women Voters League to Organize Tonight in Mount Vernon
