The quintet tops old time rival by building a commanding first half lead. Grinnell is added to the list of victories as the team gathers momentum and seals another win.
Cornell defeats Grinnell 33 to 25 in a fast clean game. Grigsby scores six field goals and dominates the first half as Cornell seizes the lead and holds off a Grinnell comeback. Long shots and tight defense marked the contest with Hoadley Kepler and Somers among top scorers. Oscar Allanson, now at Camp Dodge, may attend the Presbyterian reunion as a guest of honor.
Drake visits Cornell on Monday in a game expected to be one-sided with a Cornell lead predicted between twenty and fifty points the Drake Delphic notes claim Ames beat Drake 33 21 while Simpson scored eight points all from free throws and no field baskets were made in that game
Junior and Senior Cornellians hold separate councils with playful plots. The Juniors elect Pep Lemon as their chief and plan a large feast called the Junior Park inviting all four Cornellian tribes. The Seniors plan a party in honor of their white friend George Washington with a dress theme and inviting all tribes.
The verse notes initiation activities changing among campus groups with Adelphs reaching second degree pledges and pillows carried by all Adelph pledges. Barrel rolling by Amphies, and Parmenians returning to the farm movement are mentioned, along with pranks involving cushions and castor oil.
Dr Knight has received a beautifully engraved commission from the United States government. It is given to the Four Minute chairmen who have shown loyalty to the government and ability to organize and direct a Four Minute Men organization. The recipients of the commission according to President Wilson are part of the Reserve officers corps of the nation.
The Barrels defeated the Kegs in a rough Grinnell match claiming victory with a disputed 2-2 score. Referee Mandeville faced controversy over timing and fringe length while players like Lynch Locke and O Neel delivered key plays amid boisterous crowd reaction.
Student leaders at Cornell led an evening discussion on duty and leadership. Hubert Van Ness urged diligence for those staying in school to serve country, while Damon Gunn stressed sincerity and unselfish friendship. Harold Johnson urged self awareness for future leadership. Slav Allen spoke of a praying God.
The garden club plans a two part course on general gardening and vegetable specifics to boost production for the war effort. Nine members currently attend and more are welcome. contact Professor Ritchey to join the class.
In a close class game sequence, Freshmen beat Sophomores 22 to 8 while Juniors outpace Seniors 14 to 8. The standings show Seniors 2 wins 2 losses, Juniors 3 wins 1 loss, Sophomores 2 wins 2 losses, Freshmen 2 wins 2 losses. Lineups feature players such as West Sterner Johnson Smith and O’Neil on the Sophs and Butzloff Reed on the Seniors.
Rose Evelyn Baker performed Within the Law at Center Point on February 2 drawing strong applause. Report notes her versatile portrayal of finance men detectives crooks and shop girls and commends clear natural action and dialogue by a skilled company.
Romaine Guild and Rall Grigsby were elected leaders by student vote to head the grand march for the Colonial Party. The event, Friday the twenty-second at the gym, features a full-school march, practice on Wednesday, Dort Hutchinson in charge, Glee Club songs, colonial costumes, powdered wigs, and refreshments.
The Forensic Council met Friday afternoon to elect officers and select judges for Freshman debates. Elected officers include Sterley Wheeler as President Lucy Robinson as Vice President Glenn Rouse as Secretary and Alvin Hulse as Treasurer.
Another Bowman Hall tea was held Friday afternoon from two to five by the third floor girls. A short program was presented and tea with lemon and wafers was served.
Miss Edwards addresses girls at CYA Thursday on living Christianity daily. She defines Christianity as embodying Christ's life in ordinary tasks through love and service, stressing daily duties as opportunities to propagate faith and help others.
