W. L. Granville, the English actor, delivered an outstanding chapel recital last night. The final lecture course summary will likely highlight his performance as a pinnacle, with fine character selection and deep psychological insight, aided by lighting, makeup, and costume.
Miss Betty Carr and Miss Helen Cleland of Grinnell debated Marjorie Holmes and Nina Pritchard on unemployment insurance in the Social Rooms. Opal Lybarger chaired as Grinnell argued for the practical need and benefits while Pritchard labeled the move un-American and socialist.
The Cornell College Conservatory of Music presented George Tracy Dale McConnell Arlene Herd klotz Adelaide Ports Clara Gree le and J hy Gloom in a Tuesday afternoon recital at 4 15 in the chapel. The Madrigal club appeared in three members.
Prof Beem read John Drinkwater's play Abraham Lincoln and Veche Tintas's poem Abraham Lincoln Walk Out Midnight in chapel Thursday. The readings offered insight into the life and character of the man whose birthday is commemorated on February 12.
Lloyd C. Oakland class of 1930 will direct a broadcast by Arlington High School Chorus from KSOO Sioux Falls on February 22 from 5 to 6 pm. The program will feature two of Oakland’s compositions.

Leo B. Genung of Osage Iowa an alumnus of Cornell and Brown University was burned in an Ohio State University incident while returning to rescue head instructor Clarence Bremer from a gas filled room after an explosion as he and another assistant instructor evacuated the building Genung now hospital bound with burns and gas inhalation and Bremer survived with injuries The event followed Genung s three year post Cornell study and move to OSU as an assistant instructor in chemistry
English actor V L Granville told Cornelians that commercialism drives the American stage while praising the value of talking pictures and the little theatre. He distinguished between mass shows and artful productions, stressing theater tradition as essential to ongoing artistic life.
The annual Girls Grex for high school juniors and seniors is set for March 13 and 14 at SL. Friday includes dinner at Pfeiffer and Bowman Halls, a performance of The Pirates of Penzance, and a buffet lunch. Saturday features gym play day and departmental entertainments, with a tea dance in the afternoon. College girls invite prospective Cornellians to attend.
Aptitude examinations for medical school entrants were given in the biology lab to identify suitable candidates for medicine. The test, organized by Cornell with the Association of Medical Schools, highlights annual admissions and historical capacity limits. About 15 000 men testeds in recent years, with roughly 7 000 admitted due to facilities constraints, and over 20 percent of entrants dropping out for inability to master the course.
Nominations for W A A officers were made at a Wednesday executive meeting. President nominees include Shirley Householder Jane Mahin Bernadine Johnston. Treasurer nominees are Esther Schlue Helen Von Behren Faye Gardens. Secretary nominees are Margaret Herrick Wilma Roach Gwen Edwards. The runner up for president becomes vice president. further nominations may be added by petition of ten active members.
Dr. H J Burgstahler departs Wednesday for a month long journey visiting major west coast cities to attend Cornell alumni gatherings. He plans stops in Denver Seattle Tacoma Portland and Eugene meeting local alumni and speaking at chapel and church events along the way.
Lawrence Long, injured in a Friday auto accident, returned home from St. Lukes hospital Cedar Rapids on Wednesday. He is rapidly recovering with a broken collar bone and plans to resume school next Monday.
Josef Hoffmann, renowned pianist, is booked for the first concert of the May Music Festival on the evening of May 7. He will also play a Saturday matinee with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on May 9.
Professor I M McGaw will present a second travel lecture on Oberammergau and the Passion Play on Thursday March 5. Sponsored by a division of the local Ladies Aid, it follows a previous talk on Friday January 30. He studied in Europe last summer and plans further travel.
Dr. W. H. Norton spoke at chapel on February 11 about class prejudice in America. He argued that while race prejudice exists, the focus should be on social class and the tendency to blame the rich for many issues. He warned against selfish, abstract thinking and self interest.
The Madrigal club performed a candle lit prelude during the Cedar Rapids and Davenport joint district conference at St. Pauls Methodist church. Their program included Brigg Fair by Grainger Just as the Tide Was Flowing and Was Sail Song arranged by Williams.

Jack Barry prints an unexpurgated play while Charlotte Fenstermacher shares six quick story cuts and Marjorie Holmes offers pithy lessons from history.
A Wednesday Law Building meeting of men debated the campus point system. No drastic changes were made. motions aimed to limit points in certain activities. The C C A chair, editors, and key figures gained equal rating. the Hulk received recognition for the first time.
Dr. W. S. Ebersole announces the new college catalogue will likely be off the press by the latter part of March.
Four Cornell men including Richard Sproat Albert Nelson and Lewis Carpenter talked with Cedar Rapids artist Grant Wood during the opening of his exhibit featuring American Gothic. Herbert Rosengren aided the meeting with the gallery director.
