Seniors vie for King and Miller scholarships at Cornell

More than 100 high school seniors compete for William Fletcher King Scholarships and Horace Alden Miller Music Awards. Recipients from Illinois Iowa Missouri and Minnesota will be selected by tests interviews and faculty meetings for awards up to 4000 over four years based on class rank and financial need.

May Music Festival Dates and Soloists Named

Paul Beckhelm of the Cornell Conservatory of Music announced May 4 5 and 6 as the dates for the 68th annual May Music Festival. Mil dred Miller mezzo soprano opens the program on May 4 with David Bar Ilan pianist to follow. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra directed by Walter Hendl returns for the 59th year joining the Cornell Oratorio Society on Saturday afternoon for Norman Dello Joio The Song of Affirma tion. The final concert on Saturday evening features a symphony.

Iowa Scientist Davis to Speak at Palo Consolidated

Prof Watson Davis of Cornell will visit Palo Consolidated School on February 17 as part of the Iowa visiting scientist program. He will meet with school authorities to plan a program for the event and discuss the local science curriculum.

Scholarship for String Instrument Students Announced

A $665 nine week scholarship for private study and orchestral experience at the Summer Music School in Aspen Colorado is offered by the Women’s Association of the St Louis Symphony Society. Auditions at Washington University St Louis April 16 determine the winner. Eligible students ages 18 to 25 play violin viola cello or double bass and reside in Missouri Kansas Illinois Arkansas Indiana or Iowa.

Cornell Names Arland Christ-Janer New President

Cornell's Arland F. Christ-Janer will assume the presidency on March 1. With Christ-Janer delayed, Dean Howard W. Troyer and business manager Charles Cochran share duties, while Dean Stuart J. E. Good may step in if needed. Christ-Janer's release from St. John's delayed campus arrival to February 15, with initial meetings planned for the week of February 22.

Memorial Award plans and Constitution revisions at campus council

The Student Council discussed finalizing the Memorial Award outline and will notify four families of proposals before releasing specifics. A comprehensive Honor Study Committee questionnaire will be distributed to faculty and students, aiming for near full participation. Revisions to the present Constitution are planned with daily committee meetings in February, leading to approval steps and a campus ratification vote on February 28.

Cast Picked For Cand ida at Cornell Theatre

The Cornell drama department announced the Candida cast with Roger Place as Reverend Morell and Sue Richardson as Miss Prosperine Garnett. Fred Moore is Alexander Mill, Linda Hallquist Candida, Eugene Marchbanks to be played by Don Patterson, and Charles Orr as Burgess with Chester Webb directing. Performances set for Armstrong Little Theatre on March 10 and 11.

Brubeck Quartet Set For Cornell Chapel Concert

The Dave Brubeck quartet will perform at King Chapel in Cornell on February 20 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets cost $2 with student tickets at $1. The group features Paul Desmond and has earned top rankings in Playboy Jazz Poll. current members include Joe Morello and Gene Wright.
