Authorities say the Cornell swimming pool project aims for completion by May 1 amid recent campus unrest and scarlet fever distractions. Day labor crews plaster the pool room ceiling, with plumbing and filter components awaited. concrete walls will be poured next, tiles laid by hand, and final lining to follow.
After deliberation the powers decide to grant more self government to the Hall Girls. A senate with a member from each of four classes and a representative from six girls literary societies will form the body. It will relieve the Dean of duties, hear cases, meet weekly, and consider ideas for improved hall life and privileges. It will not interfere with the house president or corridor members.
President Co W Flint spoke at the S U L midwinter convention on orientation, arguing that war may be necessary to uphold eternal principles and humanity, and that college should prepare men for full stature beyond mere peace. He warned against slothful ease and avarice as America faces world events.
The College Eye reports the Schoolmaster's Club will meet at the Cafeteria on February 20 where Professor John E Stout will present the address. Stout, education professor at Cornell College, is a noted Iowa educational figure and former president of the Iowa State Teachers Association.

Cornell expresses sympathy.
Two hundred two men signed for military training this morning on campus. Nearly a hundred more names are expected as the canvas continues with faculty also signing in support. No drill officer has been named yet.
At two o clock this afternoon a blaze broke out in the attic of the Ellison house on East Second Avenue. The alarm was given and townspeople and students aided in fighting the fire. By press time the fire was under control with only the roof burned. Misses Estelle Brewster and Hertha Spies were rooming there.

The freshman debates move to February 24 to avoid Colonial Party conflicts. Debates will occur simultaneously in society halls replacing programs. Drawings assign sides with Zetegathian and Miltonian among others. A return debate with Laurence is planned for after spring vacation using a similar industrial insurance topic. Officers elected for next year are President Walker, Vice President Smith, Secretary Baird, Treasurer Matthews.
