Council Weighs Disciplinary Board and Election Reforms

Student Council president Lowell Henriksen says a proposed student disciplinary board could be approved by next week with power only to recommend actions to administrators or the faculty board. Final approval rests with Dean Troyer and campus leaders.

ISGC Bans Pre pledging For Pledges This Semester

The Men’s Inter-Social Group Council prohibits pre pledging this year. Forty four men sit on the eligibility list. Pledging will start with traditional handshakes before chapel Tuesday. Groups may tell prospective pledges they are getting bids but no group pre pledging. Violations may be reported to ISGC and judged. New limits also curb borrowing group possessions by new initiates.

Cornell Receives Grant For Loans

A $5 000 grant for student loans under the National Defense Education Act will aid Cornell students. The Education Office administers the funds with preference for teaching paths or strong math science engineering and languages. Repayment starts one year after graduation within 11 years and carries 3 percent interest. Armed services members incur no interest for up to three years. Part of the loan may be canceled for graduates who teach full time in elementary or secondary schools. Death or total disability cancels loans.

Lidrich to serve on Mademoiselle '59 College Board

Cornel junior Pat Lidrich was selected from 784 applicants to join the Mademoiselle national College Board representing Cornell this year. The position allows exploration of writing editing fashion advertising or art with a potential guest editorship after two assignments by month end.

Cornell Women Seek Date at Annual Sweetheart Swirl

A year's end ritual as Valentines Day approaches drives Cornell women through a hunt for a male partner. Freshmen become prospects, sophomores mature into suitors, and juniors and seniors vie for courted status in the Social Center event beginning at 8:30 pm with a king and court representing the honored males.

CSF Explores Mystery of Sex Series Opens On Feb 8

CSF announces a series titled The Mystery of Sex with a kickoff talk by Dr. Virgil Fish of St. Louis on Sunday February 8 at 7 p.m. in Armstrong hall reception room. Tom Mikelson to introduce speaker and discussion groups follow on February 15 led by multiple pairs. A worship service on February 22 led by Tom and Gay Mikelson closes the series. AWS Changes Baby Sitting Hours for Women Workers

AWS has set new return rules for women babysitters with a midnight deadline and four exceptions. Proctors, night girls, and sitters must be in by midnight except on Saturdays with 1 a.m. hours, when special hours apply, or when chaperoning campus events. Rates remain 45 cents base, 60 cents if child awake, and one dollar with housework. transport is provided by the employer.

Cornell to host summer science meeting for college teachers

Cornell University will hold a June 15 27 summer conference for 40 college physics and chemistry instructors focusing on radioisotopes and their uses. Donald Cohen of Argonne National Laboratory will lead sessions with lectures and labs, supported by a $15900 federal grant from a Senate appropriation.
