Transfers arrive from University of Iowa Iowa State University and Lawrence College. President Russell D Cole and Dean Howard Troyer hosted a dinner for newcomers Friday.

Du Pont Awards Teaching Grants to Cornell in Education Program
The Du Pont foundation awarded Cornell a $4,000 teaching grant as part of its annual aid to education program. The total of recent grants exceeds $1,300,000 to 143 universities and colleges, including five in Iowa, supporting fundamental research, science teaching, and science and engineering facilities.

Geologist Hunt To Lecture as Valley Event Draws Crowds
Geologist Charles B. Hunt of the United States Geological Survey will visit the Cornell campus February 14 to 17 under American Geological Institute and National Science Foundation sponsorship. He will meet geology classes, major students, and faculty, and lecture on Death Valley ecology and salt chemistry with insights into archaeology. Sigma Gamma Epsilon will host his Death Valley lecture February 16 at 8 p.m. in the Geology lecture room. Prof. Hendriks will arrange student appointments for February 16 with Hunt, who holds a Yale Ph.D. and Yale Masters, and joined the USGS in 1930.

Bern to be Guest Soloist with Cedar Rapids Symphony
Cornell professor Julian Bern will guest soloist with the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra under Henry Denecke at 8 p.m. Thursday. The concert, with no charge, is presented through the Cedar Rapids Symphony Association and unions and funds. Works include Beethoven Piano Concerto III in C minor and Mahler Adagietto, plus Weber Overture, Beatrice and Benedict Overture, and Pictures at an Exhibition finale. Horn soloists include Ervin Menken, Robert Thayer, Franklin Ruhl, and Janet Thulin.
