Plans are under way for the Colonial Party the senior class hosts each year at the gymnasium near Washington's birthday. The event emphasizes complete colonial costume with spectators considered and Virginia Reel dancing tableaux and a Grand March led by student electors. Last year's affair was praised for attendance and decoration, and organizers expect this year to surpass it.
Mount Vernon defeated Belle Plaine 26 to 24 in an overtime thriller. The seesaw game had Belle Plaine leading 8 6 at the start, with the score tied at 22 at regulation end and Mt. Vernon pulling away 4 to 2 in the overtime period.
The Freshman team and Mount Vernon High played a heated contest halted by supper bell. No score could be confirmed as the scorekeeper vanished, leaving the final 22 21 for the freshmen claimed by both sides.
The college catalogue, detailing prices, hours, and rules for students, will be issued within the next two weeks after page proofs were assembled. A new bulletin will outline ideal courses for professions including ministry and journalism.
The scheduled game this afternoon between Cornell freshmen and Dysart High was cancelled at the high school’s request.
During Easter week in Washington D C the association of Collegiate Alumnae will hold its biennial meeting to vote on admissions for Alleghany College Meadville Pa Bates College Lewiston Me Cornell College Mount Vernon Iowa Franklin College Franklin Ind Iowa State College Ames Tufts College Boston Miami College Oxford Ohio Middlebury College Middlebury Vt and the universities of Oregon Pittsburgh Vermont and Wooster Fifty four colleges are already members.
Washington announces formal severance of diplomatic relations with Germany after a final conference between Secretary Lansing, President Wilson, and the cabinet that stretched nearly all night. The State Department confirms the strategic move following the talks.
In Des Moines last night Cornell defeated Simpson 21 to 19 in a tight contest. The halftime score was 11 all and the final minutes featured a decisive late field basket by Cornell. Kepler led Cornell with six baskets, with Byerly and Bowen also strong. Delayed trains forced the team to play almost fasting, described by Coach Finger as the best game of the season.

Clinton and Mason City used a new plan to secure qualified judges for a debate. Cornell debating squad supplied three judges Boles Smith and Matthews who judged the clash as high quality. The Mason City team won unanimously on the state high school question.
Arthur Elliott travels to Fargo to join the law offices of Bernard Lovell and study law while working. Russell Waitt heads to Omaha to serve as private secretary to Bishop Homer Stuntz, continuing his prior role with the bishop.
Dean Madison of Bowman Hall shows improving health and may sit up briefly by mid next week if her strength continues. Emma McIntyre serves as acting dean of the dormitory amid the illness.
The Cornellian plans a reader canvass starting February 6 in Mount Vernon to boost circulation for advertising. A meeting at 4 PM in the Cornellian office will train solicitors who will earn hourly pay plus commission. Both men and women students are welcome to apply.
Theodore Vail argues in January American Magazine that youths must gain practical experience before entering employment. He warns college is valuable only for the right students and that heirs lack hard knocks, debt, and real work experience. He says real earning comes after building experience, not before.
