John Mason Brown renowned New York Post drama critic will give an 8 pm lecture on Broadway in Review. He will recap this season's New York play lineup and share backstage insights from Broadway stars.
Dr. J. B. Culbertson chemistry professor returns to Cornell after a five month leave teaching at the University of Nebraska. He filled in for Horace G. Deming and enjoyed discussions with 13 Nebras ka chemistry faculty. He praised Lincoln and the Nebras ka stint and spoke to the Nebraska section of the American Chemical Society about Cornell research.
A team from the University of Ottawa Kansas will debate here Thursday at 7 pm on Federal Control of Wages and Hours with Cornell’s Joe Fink and Harold Calkins on the negative. Jean Ambrose Mary Ellen Moore Helen Flynn and Jeannette Mac Donald travel to GrinneH college Thursday and Central college at Pella Friday to debate the same question. Last Thursday freshmen defeated Maquoketa junior college on utilities and the wages and hours questions with Maxwell Miller and Charles Higby on utilities and Martin Kestenbaum and Neil Swanson on the second question.
Captain Arnold Kenyon a former World War I chaplain will speak to the International Relations club next Tuesday at 7 p.m. on A Chaplain s Stand on War. The speaker active in Iowa Co. Co. C. is noted for an unusual war perspective. Public welcome with no admission charge.
An unnamed friend of the college provided a grant enabling Dr. Francis F. Ebersole of Mount Vernon to offer services to students at the college for the remainder of the semester at no cost. The service is available only at the college from 9 to 10 a.m.
Two Cornell graduates are named to staff positions George Barbour a field representative in admissions and Lucille Haug secretary to the president Barbour captained the track team and held multiple campus offices while Haug led the W A A and produced art used in Kiddie Books Their careers span advertising social work and college leadership
Bishop Thomas Nicholson of Mount Vernon and former Cornell professor is honored on his 75th birthday with a tea at his College boulevard home. The event, hosted by Mrs. Nicholson, features flowers and a cake from National Anti-Seloon League members. Nicholson, an ex‑president of the league, had a long career in academia and ministry, contributing to Jubilee Education and church movements.
Editor Herbert Kaselow announced February 15 as the deadline for the Royal Purple picture contest. Cash prizes will go to the best group of pictures and the most interesting single shot. The yearbook favors campus angle views and candid faculty and student snapshots. Undergraduates with eligible photos are urged to submit.
Dr. Robert Leeper, psychology instructor, publishes a handbook titled Psychology of Personality and Social Adjustment printed by Hawkeye Record Press Mount Vernon. The work focuses on normal personality and practical handling of everyday personality problems for students and others. R R Willoughby calls the handbook unique and timely, noting it could lift psychology from its perceived sterility in college courses.
Dr Tarl Wedden a Providence Rhode Island minister is the main feature of Religion Emphasis Week. He speaks Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday evenings at the First Methodist Church and Wednesday Thursday and Friday mornings at chapel plus Sunday morning worship. Dr Ledden will not conduct a meeting Saturday. Evening meetings start 7 30 and chapel services at 9 30 am.
The Thalians will meet Thursday evening in the women's lounge with Louise Rich in charge of the dinner.
Cornell announces plans for a $160000 Armstrong Hall of Fine Arts to house all fine arts. It will stand between Bowman Hall and the president’s home with early American architecture and a 420-seat ground floor theatre.
Mary Lee Cooper, daughter of Dr and Mrs Russell M Cooper, arrived at St Luke’s hospital Cedar Rapids early Saturday morning. Mrs Cooper is getting along well. The history professor celebrated by grading examination papers.
A Delphi party is set for Saturday night in the social rooms. Betty Edge chairs refreshments Phyllis Hoffman leads dance numbers Barbara Blackwell heads the program committee and Irene Canfield serves as social chairman.
