Cornel students offer a Kiddie Book released today with writing about the Christmas spirit from jovial Santa bits to folk tales and interpretations. An unusual number of linoleum and wood cuts illustrate the issue.
The column jokes about dormitory social life at Morningside with playful remarks on campaigns to make the dorms social centers and the dining privileges for gentlemen guests. It riffs on campus rumors and holiday wishes, noting mischievous puns and seasonal irony.
About twenty couples attended the Altoona party Friday night enjoying dancing, cards and tours of rooms. A Christmas tree held gifts for everyone and refreshments included taffy apples and popcorn balls.
George Bernard Shaw's Apple Cart scheduled for the Shrine Temple in Cedar Rapids this evening has been cancelled due to a rerouting of the troupe.
Midwest conference grid selects first and second all conference teams for 1931 season. Purple varsity lands three first team honorees including Warner at tackle. Don Haloupek is named pivot and Brandau earns halfback berth.
At the men’s debate seminar tomorrow night at 7 00 Harold Keele and Elwyn Mauck will argue the affirmative against Clarence Richardson and Edwin Austin who oppose the Stuart Chase plan in the second informal debate on that question. Everyone interested is invited to attend.
Dr. Roy L. Fernald head of the economics department will address Linn Township Farm Bureau tomorrow night on the topic Public Utilities in Politics.
Five Cornellians from New England will begin a fifteen hundred mile drive home for the holidays tomorrow afternoon at 4 30. William Ryan of Massachusetts will lead with passengers William Qualter James Sousa Courtland Charlot all of Massachusetts and Lamont Wadleigh of Maine.
The Cornell Oratorio Society and Cornell Symphony Orchestra presented Messiah to a packed chapel audience. Nearly two hundred students joined the chorus and orchestra under Harold Baltz, delivering a sincere and beautiful performance that upheld the group’s reputation.
Dorothy Miller notes that while students leave for vacation on Friday the 18th, several professors will travel or attend conferences. H C Stancliff goes to Minneapolis for the American Historical Association meeting December 28 to 30. Don B Gould visits Norman Oklahoma then Tulsa for geology society meetings. C F Littell attends the American Political Science Association in Washington DC as Iowa branch president.
J W Reeder 58 Cornell’s oldest alumnus was buried this afternoon at Tipton. He died at 95 with Reverend W J Reed and Dr Frank Cole leading services. Reeder, a lifelong friend of Herbert Hoover, once held the president’s hat at the inaugural. He served on Cornell’s board of trustees for nine years.
The last social event of the W A A before the holidays is a Christmas tea dance in the Social Rooms from 4:00 to 6:00 tomorrow afternoon. Decorations and refreshments fit the seasonal spirit.
Journalism students dinner scheduled for Tuesday evening at the Grill has been canceled due to unavailability of a speaker. The group will reconvene after the holidays.
Tryouts for the seventh annual sophomore Shakespearean production Macbeth run this week. Prof Clyde Tull and Mrs Tull have directed plays for five years, with several Cornell alumni starting in these roles. Committees include Joe Kaselow, Merna Suter, Dorothy Pierce as judges. Loren Harrington oversees business.
A revised schedule lists games against Augustana on December 17 and December 19 at Minnesota and Carroll on December 21. It shows upcoming dates at home against Coe January 8 and January 30, with further trips to Ripon, Lawrence, Beloit, and Knox and home matchups with Coe and Carleton.
The women's debate seminar met last night to discuss the coming debate season and the question they will debate this year namely the cancellation of reparations and war debts.

Students may borrow books for vacation from the Cornell College library with open hours 2:00 to 5:00 each afternoon except Sundays and holidays. No overdue fines until January 6. after that a two cent per day fine applies for overdue items.
Mt. Vernon suffers a 25 to 10 defeat on its home floor as LaPorte builds an early lead and holds on through a fast third quarter. Robb the LaPorte forward scores repeatedly, while Vernon battles back in spots before Christmas vacation.
Dr. Nicholas Knight head of Chemistry at Cornell College Mount Vernon Iowa receives a cordial letter from Syracuse University Chancellor Charles W. Flint dated December 8 1931 praising his $500 gift and the manner of giving with colleagues offering personal regards.
