Miltonians Defeat Adelphians In Debating Tax Question

The Miltonians won a two to one decision in a first Cornell debate over the Adelphians on the resolution that universal adoption of a single tax would be better than the current taxation system. Clarence Holm and Glenn Mathews led the negation with strong rebuttals, while Northrup Winter and Ralf Grigsby contributed rapid, effective arguments. All six debaters were firsttimers at Cornell, giving promise for future contests.

Honor Athletic Men Selected For Major awards

At the annual fall meeting the athletic board awarded twenty men the major C in football six received A’s six earned cross country letters and twenty one freshmen won football numerals. Nine had letters in football last fall eleven are new. four are old C men with baseball letters last spring. Names listed include Allanson Smyth Johnson Campbell Zehr Hughes Milholm Knight Bowen Grigsby Boylan Frei Howard Eyestone Walker Moyer Hartwell Gethmann Winkler Etter. Also honored Torrance Louis West Devine Danskin Remner Hogle. Cross country six with four veterans: Briggs K C Smith Lahman Gret tenberg Haeseler Merwin. Luncheon for Trustees Showcases Domestic Science Dept

The Domestic science department hosted a noon luncheon for trustees their wives and friends on Thursday. Fifty five guests dined in a softly lit room with yellow chrysanthemum centerpieces. Miss Stedman led the event with assistance from department class members praising the program and Miss Busse for rapid progress and educational opportunities for young women.

Swimming Training Becomes University Duty For Iowa

Iowa City Swimming will be a required part of physical training at the state university. Since the pool opened in the rebuilt men’s gymnasium, all men in gym work must swim. About 400 swim daily. the women’s pool is not ready yet but all women lacking swimming expertise will receive instruction once available.

More Time for Social Sciences Over Ancient Languages

Cornell alumni with five to twenty five years of life experience urge more time in the college curriculum for social sciences and less for ancient languages. A letter inquiry to graduates represented diverse professions and supported shifting 120 credit hours toward social problem related subjects.

Seniors Win Class Basketball In Scrappy Final

The girls of 16 defend their title as seniors edge sophomores 15 to 14 in a hard fought final. Hazel Baughman and Ethel Cook starred for the sophomores while Dorothy Keyes and Grace Fox contributed strong guard and center play for the seniors.

Football Benefit Game Planned

A club announces a charity basketball event to raise funds for doctor bills of football season injuries. planned for the last week of school, likely two games between freshmen and varsity squads arranged as freshman varsity and freshman freshman or two freshman varsity pairings. Fans will see the Cornell team in action, aiming to cover expenses fully after last year’s shortfall despite more injuries then.
