Fourteen Honor Keys Awarded By Men's Senate

Fourteen men received the Men's Senate honor keys for activity since last April 15. Recipients include Paul Hickman president of the Cornell Christian Association and Men's Senate, Arthur Crosby football letterman and senior treasurer, Richard Tims debate and orchestra, and others across bands, choirs, plays, and scholastic honors.

Claude Rose Becomes National Collegiate Players Member

Claude Rose, a senior at Cornell, was initiated into the National Collegiate Players, the fifth Cornellian this year. Initiation was led by Prof Clyde Tull and Theodore Arnold as the Cornell chapter joins the national list of twenty seven chapters with strict membership standards and conservative expansion policy.

Redemption Is This Weekend at Cornell Players Drama

Final rehearsals for Tolstoy's Redemption proceed under Prof Albert Franklin Johnson for performances April 21 and 22 in the college chapel. Men's Mixer guests will attend the Saturday show and winners of the one act play will be announced then.

McGaw To Speak At Coe Meeting

Prof. Frederick M. McGaw head of mathematics will speak to the mathematics section of the Iowa Academy of Science at Coe college this Friday and Saturday. His talk title is Devices in Mathematical Instruction.

A humorous tirade catalogues inflated language at Cornell where simple phrases have given way to erudite verbiage. A dean laments verbose letters from a rooming house keeper and jokes about slow replies due to Webster’s dictionary.

Cornellans to Attend Coe College Science Meeting

The annual Academy of Science gathering at Coe College runs Friday morning to Saturday noon. Open to undergraduate science students, with sections for physical biological and psychology disciplines. Prof. J B Culbertson and students will present an illustrated paper on Steric Hindrance as a Factor in the Hydrolytic Stability of Aromatic Retimines before the organic biological chemistry section.

Nine Manuscripts Entered In Purple Masquer Contest

Nine manuscripts were entered in the Purple Masquer one act play contest which closed on Monday April 17. Judges are Opal Munger Frances German Ruth Miller Theodore Arnold and Richard Baker. Winners announced at the Saturday evening performance of Redemption with prizes for the top three including public production.

Anselm Prepares Summer Catalog for Two Five Week Terms

The summer school catalog announces two five week terms starting June 5 and July 10, directed by Prof. George Anselm. Off campus faculty include Jacques Jolas James Nauman and Florence i Prehm. Notable courses feature a creative writing seminar led by Jewell Bothwell Tull and Clyde Tull with Miss Winifred Mayne assisting.

Dr Strunk to Speak to Science Club

Dr W L Strunk professor of biology at Luther college Decorah will speak on Researches in Animal Psychology in the geology lecture room on Thursday April 20 at 7 45 under the auspices of the Science club. He formerly served as a ranger naturalist at Yellowstone National park and did graduate work at the University of Minnesota.

The Latin Club plans its April meeting at the home of Prof. and Mrs. Mark Hutchinson. Robert Smith leads the program with assistants Herman Apfel Elmer Pratt and Laura McKay guiding the discussion on the Parilia.

Sarg Puppets Deliver Sinbad Show April 27

Tony Sarg famed illustrator and marionette impresario will present his carved wooden actors in Sinbad the Sailor in a drama hosted by the English club on Thursday April 27. Sarg revived marionette theater in the United States and has produced coast to coast tours expanding for years. The puppets have previously appeared at Cornell with shows like Rose and the Ring and Alice in Wonderland.

To Play Own Work In Mason City Recital

Prof. Horace Alden Miller of the Conservatory of Music will give a recital of his own compositions and speak on modern music at the Iowa Federation of Women's clubs biennial meeting in Mason City on May 3. Iza Nienack of Charles City will perform Miller's violin numbers and Mrs. F M Humphrey of Mason City will sing Miller songs.

Men’s Mixer Plans Varied Program This Saturday

The Men’s Mixer opens Saturday April 21 with campus survey and gym registration morning, a dorm lunch, and an all college track meet in the afternoon. At 5:30 the Mixer dinner at the Methodist church includes toastmaster Prof Donald Gould, student speakers Newell Madison and Arthur Crosby, and awards by Dick Barker. Prof Chester L. Rich will be main speaker. Tolstoy’s Redemption follows with high school guests of the speech department. Committee heads are Beard, Currie, Tims, Sickman, Wilkinson, Plowman.

Grant Wood Exhibition At Art Studio Prints

Grant Wood Cedar Rapids artist displays original mural drawings of Iowa farm life at the art studio. Miss Nama Lathe notes the careful study behind the work. The Little Gallery Cedar Rapids loaned the drawings, after March shows in Dubuque and prior display at Cornell.
