Crowe Acquitted in Local Street Car Robbery Case

In Cornell Bluffs on May 22 Pat Crowe was found not guilty by a jury of holding up a street car about two years ago and robbing the area. One accomplice testified Crowe was not one of the robbers. Crowe, noted for the Cudahy child escape case, had been indicted for the crime.

Blacks Condemn Roosevelt and Back Foraker for Presidency

In Boston on May 2 a meeting of colored citizens passed resolutions denouncing Roosevelt and endorsing James A. Foraker for president. The event occurred at Paneutl hall and reflects early 20th century party alignment among African American voters. The article also notes Coney Island Athletic Club improvements including a bath, training room, locker, reception room, expanded quarters, and a new west wall entrance. club membership around sixty with charter framing planned.

Sewer work funding plan outlined by city commission

The city commission met to organize bonds for an eighty thousand dollar sewer project. Perleman brothers sold the property to James K. Ine and others. Geo Harte, longtime city resident, was elected president. J W Platt treasurer. Bond issues of 10,000 each were discussed, with anticipated payments from property holders as sections of the sewer are completed. Public notice to hire work bidders was issued for June 17. The Singer SIK store acquired quarter sawn oak show cases for display.

A mob attacked the home of Mes or Padgett harboring a Black man accused of a crime. Gunfire killed John Hare and a Black man and wounded multiple others including W J Pierson and Padgett family members. Class Day Program Delights Graduating Class Crowd

A large crowd attended the class day exercises at the park with Misses Alest and McBuen opening the program. Lester H Vinowt read the history, while Kenneth Eider and Enon Marshall delivered speeches. The program featured poetry readings, a dramatic mock, and a marching finale, ending with a toast to the graduates and a carnival-like display of gas ore and sticks.
