Local students stage a two show evening on Monday featuring the Orient al Lady Minstrels and Black Faced Men with music and local humor. Tickets available at Rose's Drug Store. seats not held at the door. shows at 7 15 pm and 9 00 pm.
An editor criticizes the American Legion as an attempt to inflame militarism in the United States. The piece cites alleged influence on Mexican affairs and wartime preparedness while naming Theodore Roosevelt and endorsements, and notes no current action in Washington aside from a request to move headquarters.
Edgar Crammond told the Royal Statistical Society the war should finish by July due to belligerent exhaustion. He tabulated total costs to end of July at £3.398 billion and overall losses at £15.494 billion, with Britain’s share up to £708 million.
R B Pumphrey received a letter from J C Griffith of Houston apologizing for the omission of Luther A Lawdon s address. The note recalls 1880 cattle trails with Dad Tom Snyder of Georgetown and Dick Arnett as herd boss. A farmers convention will be held in April 1915 to organize at the Satur n county clearinghouse, following plans by the Farmers Society of Equity. Prominent speakers will present on matters of importance to farmers and ranchmen. all are urged to attend. W. E. Camron Co secretary F. S. E Clayton New Mexico.
Governor McDonald enforces strict foot and mouth disease quarantine under new amendment authority in New Mexico. Appeals for relaxation flood in by letter and telegram, but the governor says protection of the range is paramount. He vows the quarantine will stay tight despite pressure.

The Pruitt case has been tried in district court all week with about fifty witnesses examined. Attorneys began arguments this morning and a verdict is expected late this evening. The jury includes Madamio Casados James Walker T B Bight J Me Abeyta J W Coulson Manuel Chacon J A Jacobs Francisca Gallegos J L Edgington Gregorio Miera Jerry Horton M C Johnson. Three special venires were used in addition to the regular panel.
Coates Spring work begins as residents plow fields. A Friday dance at Ira Wood’s home drew a large crowd with music by Mr. and Mrs. Fisher. Stella Kendrick sprained her arm after a fall. Clyde Huff helps C. M. Sprague with corn. Joe Hoff visited G. P. Anderson’s home. J. W. Stone traveled to Clayton with oil barrels for Mr. Bearrup. Merriatt welcomes a socialist voter at his home. eligibility to vote will take about twenty one years.
Henry Mercer made a business trip to Nara Vive last week. Mrs. Henry Mercer was on the sick list but is able to be around again. Chas J Kappus of Toledo and Fred Hoelderle of Claston visited the Ohio ranch. Kappus is president and Hoolderle secretary. Will and Oro Weckel and George Kile were Clayton visitors earlier in the week. Despite bad weather and roads, school attendance has been good and Miss McClendon is teaching a successful term. A Chicago Herald correspondent asks if President Wilson would pin a decoration on his grandson. The Houston Post affirms such an act, saying a man unworthy of a grandson would fail to perform it well. Also noted: all robber goods, drags and drag sundries at City Drag Store.
C Porter known as Juck Porter longtime Union County stockman died last Saturday night March 13 from heart paralysis. He was seventy four, a 35 year resident and former foreman at the Eklund Ranch. Funeral Sunday at 2 PM at the family home with burial in the local cemetery. Communitywide sympathy noted.
On April 2 during the afternoon an exhibit of school work will be held at the school house. Parents and patrons are invited to inspect sewing and manual training work, maps outlines and drawings. Visitors may observe the school in operation.
The Baptist Ladies are hosting a cake sale Saturday afternoon at the John Spring meat market with cakes and cookies at popular prices. Don’t miss this community event.
John Bartlett of near Vance and Thos P James of near Des Moines attended business in the county seat the first of the week. J A Arnhart of near Thomas also called on business while back in New Mexico. City Drug Store advertised prescriptions and Heinstein Seed Co offered onions and seed potatoes. H J Hammond of the First National Bank returned from Boulder Colorado to recuperate. F C Field, ex executor of the Citizen and rancher from Clapham country, reported success on his farm and ranch.
